Higgins having Chinese ball

Kwik-Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship leader, David Higgins returns to the United Kingdom after dominating the Kwai Chou Rally in the Guhzo district of China. Higgins opting to miss round five of the BRC, the Manx International Rally to taste victory in China for the second time this year.

The Trefeglwys rally driver was in charge of a Ralliart KST Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII with regular co-driver Daniel Barritt alongside in what can only be described as very changeable weather conditions, with a very hot and humid climate changing to wet and foggy.

The British pair contested the eight stage event which had over 3million spectators watching proceedings. So very few stages would leave little room for error, which is exactly what the pair delivered setting seven fastest stage times and having a minor problem on the remaining stage.

"The stages on this event are very long with a mixture of very fast sections with some very big uphill climbs. It is also run at a very high altitude. The car cut out at the start of the stage, resulting in us failing to take fastest time on that stage. The problem cost us over twenty six seconds."

The pair took a convincing win on only their second outing in the Chinese Republic to keep their 100% record, which also marked the second win for Ralliart KST team to maintain the lead in the Teams Cup.

David was also encouraged by the fact that despite missing the Manx International Rally, he still heads the points table. The winning pair now plan to concentrate their efforts on round six of the BRC, the Ulster Rally, which takes place in Belfast on 3rd/ 4th September 2004.
