Spielberg hosts the Maserati Trofeo for the first time

The second round in the Maserati Trofeo World Series is raring to go. The weekend of 22-24 May will see the action unfold at Spielberg, Austria - the first time Maserati’s single-make series will be played out on this stage

There are 23 crews signed up for this round, but the top two drivers, Riccardo Ragazzi and Ange Barde, will be missing. Looking to profit from their absence will be second-placed Romain Monti, from France. Monti currently lies in third overall and will be out to pick up as many points as possible in his bid to take the lead.

Giuseppe Fascicolo (fourth overall) will be keen to build on his promising start to the season while the Frenchman of Italian roots, Stephane Panepinto, will be out to taste more of the podium thrills he enjoyed first time out on home soil.

Belgian model Angelique Detavernier will be back after her display at Paul Ricard while, making their debut, will be Swede Fredrik Blomstedt and the crew made up by Diego Romanini and Claudio Giudici. Making his first drive this season is Mario Cordoni; his last appearance was in 2014 at Abu Dhabi. Another driver making a return is Spanish journalist Jaime Hernandez, who will team up with Marcos Martinez.

In Austria, Maserati will be fielding two GT4-spec GranTurismos. The cars will be driven by Niklas Lilija, from Sweden, and Michael Bartels, the German who wrote some of the most important chapters in Maserati history with his haul of FIA GT wins and titles in the MC12. Like last time, these cars will not be awarded any championship points. The workout sees Maserati continue its preparation for a possible entry into an international GT4 championship.

The two Maserati Trofeo races can be caught on Motors TV across Europe starting from 7 of Juin; in Italy a highlights show will be broadcast on channel 177, Odeon 24, and channel 512, Sky’s Rete Economy. More information on these programmes will be published in the news section of the Maseraticorse.it website. Radio Monte Carlo will provide live
