Canamasas returns to Monaco, the scene of his podium

For Canamasas the third round of the GP2 Series will have a special significance as the Spaniard finished second last year in the Monegasque streets. That success fuels Canamasas´ optimism in Monte Carlo, which remains the ultimate challenge of driver skills.

Sergio Canamasas is ready to compete in the third round of the GP2 Series, which brings back memories of 2014 as it takes places in Monaco and there he claimed his maiden podium in the series. His second place last year is his personal best in the series so far and, without doubts, is a morale booster for the Barcelona-born driver. This positive background will enable him to successfully tackle the upcoming event in the narrow streets of Monaco, a round what is not like any other as it leaves slim margin for error. Canamasas will try to draw on his experience at the urban track.

“Monte Carlo is always a thrilling event. It is always really nice to drive there, and it is the sort of event I´m looking forward to approaching. Last year we managed to step onto the podium and my goal is to equal that result at least”, Canamasas explains, underlining that “such an historic place brings me fiery emotions as some of the most memorable and defining race moments happened there. For almost any racing driver, the same result is different here. I hope to avoid problems because at urban racing tracks it is always a key factor, mainly in qualifying. Here it is even more important to have a good position on the grid, so another key factor will be not catching traffic on my flying lap. Later in the races we need to focus on avoiding mistakes, because they may hamper a good result”.

Unlike other Grand Prix events, qualifying – separated into two sessions- takes place on Thursday at 16.15. Race one is due to start on Friday at 11.15 and Race two on Saturday at 16.10.
