Cleland ready for Carrera Cup

John Cleland is revved up and raring to make his debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Knockhill this weekend (7/8 August). "I'm going all out to get the best result I can get and I'll do whatever I can to make sure I'm at the front," promises the Scottish ace.The double BTCC champion will race the VIP car entered by Porsche Cars GB and is expected to thrill the Knockhill crowds with his return to the BTCC programme. It will be his first race outing of 2004 and Cleland says he is taking the weekend very seriously. "There's no pressure on me, but I'm taking it just as seriously as anything I've ever done."The chance to race at his home circuit and in front of his home crowd will give the weekend a real buzz for Cleland. "I'm really looking forward to it. Knockhill is a great track and it's really good for the spectators. From the right vantage points they can see most of the circuit."Having enjoyed support from Knockhill circuit throughout much of his racing career, Cleland is delighted to be back racing at the Dunfermline track. However, he says he has never been that lucky as a driver at Knockhill.Cleland will also renew his rivalry with fellow former BTCC champion Tim Harvey, who currently leads the Carrera Cup points' standings. "I'll have to remind Tim that he's chasing the championship but I'm only there for the day!" The weekend also gives Cleland the chance to race a Porsche for only the third time in his long career. "I've been a bit of a Porsche nut for years," he says.
