SGP: Tai is King of Prague

They might as well just give him the keys to the city. Speedway,Tai Woffinden is so damn good in Prague that he’ll never want to leave, but he’s heading home with a third Czech Speedway Grand Prix win safely tucked in his pocket.

He says he doesn’t even like the track that much but it certainly likes him and he became the first man to win the event three years in a row with a display of ruthlessness that left his rivals eating dirt.

He gave a masterclass in making starts and when he got his nose ahead the guys behind him had no answer, and he extended his overall lead in the series to six points heading into the six-week break in the calendar.

He said: “I don’t even think of it as a track I enjoy racing on, it just happens here! My package this year is working really good, my mechanics are working so hard and my engines are great so fingers crossed it carries on like this for the rest of the year.”

“People kept talking about me making it three in a row but last year they were talking about two, and next year they’ll be talking about four. That’s how it is but I don’t mind, it’s all part of it.

“We’ve got a break now and I’m looking forward to it, I can get out on my jet-ski and my MX bike! It’s good to be leading but it’s early in the season and there’s a long way to go so I won’t get carried away yet.”

World champ Greg Hancock started his night on fire, with three wins in a row, but machine problems in his semi-final meant that he missed out on a place in the final.

“I knew on the start-line that the bike wasn’t right and that messed me up, it threw me off and I messed up the start. It’s so frustrating because I was feeling good, but I got 12 points and that’s a decent haul.” he said.

Chris Holder ended his night on six points after a frustrating run of races in the middle of the meeting. The SGP now takes a break as the Monster Energy Speedway World Cup takes over, so stay locked in to MonsterEnergy.com for all the latest on the week-long battle of the nations.
