British GT fans GetOnTrack to support BEN at Silverstone

Fans, drivers and team members turned out in force to support automotive industry charity, BEN, and Racing4MND at Silverstone on Saturday evening during the inaugural #GetOnTrack event.

The Home of British Motor Racing threw open its pit gates to the general public, who joined the British GT family in running, walking or cycling the full 3.66-mile GP circuit that had played host to qualifying just over an hour beforehand.

Having received voluntary donations of £600, BEN’s beneficiary and VIP British GT guest Will Murphy was tasked with getting proceedings underway at 18:00 local time.

Adults and children made the most of a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with the nuances of a circuit often only experienced by drivers. Indeed, the likes of GT3 pole-winner Jonny Adam, Alexander Sims, Andrew Watson, Rick Parfitt Jnr, Joe Osborne and reigning champion Marco Attard all took the opportunity for another close inspection by joining in the fun.

GPRM’s Richard Williams, who had earlier topped GT4 Am qualifying aboard his Toyota GT86 and helped organise the event on behalf of BEN, was thrilled with the outcome.

“It was great seeing so many people turn out to support BEN and Racing4MND; I was a little bit overwhelmed actually!” he said after completing the lap somewhat slower than his qualifying time! “The British GT family has really got behind the cause, so I’d like to thank them and Silverstone for helping us organise #GetOnTrack. Seeing the look on kids’ faces as they charged off the line was a fantastic moment. It’s an opportunity that’s seldom available to the general public and, having received such a positive reaction, we’re already discussing ways of improving it for next time.”

GPRM, BEN and British GT are now hoping to organise further #GetOnTrack opportunities later this season.
