(SPEEDWAY 1 - WEDNESDAY REVIEW)

POOLE captain Maciej Janowski raced to his second maximum of the season as his side went top of the Elite League with a win over King’s Lynn. The Pirates put together a convincing display for a 58-34 victory at Wimborne Road with Janowski’s 13+2 score backed up by 10+2 from Davey Watt and paid double-figures for Chris Holder and Kyle Newman.Janowski said: “This was a good team performance, we all rode well and on nights such as this I think it shows that we could go on and win the title if we can keep this going.”King’s Lynn manager Rob Lyon said: “We were out fought and out ridden tonight. We need to draw a line under it. There is a long way to go yet.”Birmingham are now top of the National League after defeating Buxton 52-39 at Perry Barr - with teenage star Zach Wajtknecht again a trump card.Wajtknecht scored 16+1 from seven rides and also retained the Bronze Helmet with a win over Buxton top-scorer Tony Atkin (11) - although home boss Graham Drury admitted his side had again relied on their top riders, whilst the Hitmen lost Ryan Blacklock with mild concussion after a crash. He said: “If I'm being totally honest, that scoreline flatters us. Buxton played a big part in an entertaining meeting and I feel for them to a certain extent because they deserved something from tonight's match.“But we've done what we had to do and we'll enjoy another win for now but there's lots for us to work on still.”Buxton boss Jason Pipe said: “I don’t think Birmingham were 13 points better than us, in fact between Heats 5 and 12 we outscored them. The injury to Ryan may have been the difference between us getting a point and not.“We’ve had some top performances, Tom Woolley appears to have come through his bad patch with 6 paid 8 and the reserves scoring 7 paid 8 in any normal meeting would be good enough to gain us a point.”Meanwhile Coventry kept up their impressive away record with a 46-43 win at King’s Lynn to make it 12 points from five matches - all of them on the road.Dan Greenwood and Luke Crang, who both scored 11, picked up a 4-2 for the Storm in a last-heat decider after they had pulled back from a mid-meeting deficit of seven points.Coventry boss Laurence Rogers said: “That was a brilliant performance - we were throwing points away at the beginning but we bounced back superbly in the end.“The boys put 110 per cent in. We must have the strongest three heat-leaders in the league, and it was great to see Crangy get a couple of good wins from behind because he’s been lacking a bit of confidence and hasn’t had many meetings.”

(SPEEDWAY 2 - THURSDAY PREVIEW)

SHEFFIELD welcome back French star David Bellego for their big Premier League clash with Glasgow at Owlerton on Thursday.Bellego returns from injury to replace Ty Proctor, who has returned to Australia, whilst Brady Kurtz has been booked to guest for Simon Stead. He said: “I’m very happy to be back in the team and racing with the boys once again. I love it at Sheffield; I really enjoy racing the track, the promotion are very nice people, the riders are a great laugh and the fans have been amazing. “Glasgow will be a good meeting for me to come back to – they’re a good strong team with some very quick riders but I’m sure we can get a win if we all race how we know we can.”The meeting marks the start of a busy run for Glasgow, who also visit Plymouth on Friday and have a total of nine meetings in June.

BELLE Vue have confirmed they are in the process of making rising Australian star Max Fricke an asset of the club.Promoter George Carswell entered into negotiations with Edinburgh, who currently own his contract, before the youngster put pen to paper for the Aces in December last year.Carswell said: “Towards the conclusion of the 2013 season Belle Vue made a decision that we wanted to go in a different direction as far as team building and planning for the future were concerned.“We wanted to start building an asset base of young riders with the intention of their being with us for extended periods of time and each signing we’ve made has been a long-term move on our part.“Edinburgh have always been aware that if the opportunity arose to do a deal we’d be interested, and when Max chose to ride Elite League this year it was the natural route for us to pursue.”

LEWIS Blackbird has stated his intention to return from injury in Peterborough’s Premier League clash with Ipswich next Friday.Blackbird suffered two broken fingers and is also experiencing back pain after his fall at the Showground on May 25 but believes further treatment will see him fit to ride for the Panthers, and then take his place in the British Final on his home Elite League track of Wolverhampton on June 15.He said: “I’m definitely looking to be back next Friday for the Ipswich meeting. The broken fingers are not really bothering me at all and I don’t think they would cause a problem riding.“But I’m still getting pain in my back though and need to try to get that sorted. It seems to wake me up about 3.30am every morning and I have to get in the bath to make it feel better! To be honest I’ve probably got off quite lightly from the crash though."
