BRITISH Champion Tai Woffinden is targeting a hat-trick of successes when he races at former home track Wolverhampton next Monday.Woffinden is presently working with several other British riders on World Cup business as they head out to Denmark today, but the race for individual glory takes place at Monmore Green on June 15.He said: “Of course I’m really pleased to be back at Wolverhampton, I’ve been looking forward to this occasion ever since I qualified.“But it won’t be easy, I know that. I respect each and every rider in the line-up and I will have to be on top form to win the title again.”

MILDENHALL promoter Kevin Jolly says the Fen Tigers head into Sunday’s National League Fours at Coventry with plenty of reasons for optimism. The West Row club, who last won the Fours in 2012, will be represented at Brandon by Dan Halsey, Jack Kingston, Connor Mountain and Connor Coles.Jolly said: “I am firmly of the opinion that we can be in shake-up on Sunday. All four riders are in good form now and all performed well in terrible conditions at Stoke on Sunday. In these tournaments where it is run over just eight heats you certainly cannot afford to run a last place and we will be making sure the lads understand our expectations. “Cradley, Rye House and Kent all will provide stern competition, even though both Cradley and Rye House are without their top riders, but with a little rub of the green I have no doubt that we can progress into the final and from there play a big part in the final outcome.”

SHEFFIELD would love to bring the Speedway World Cup back to Owlerton – that’s according to club co-owner Damien Bates. With no action at Owlerton this Thursday, all eyes will be on Team GB in Denmark for the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Race-off.And during the week-long tournament, Bates has admitted it would be a dream come true to host an event in South Yorkshire.Bates has noted with interest how World Cup boss Paul Bellamy has visited the site of the new Belle Vue stadium in Manchester with a clear plan to take world class racing there. Said Bates: “I would love to bring a World Cup event to Sheffield because I believe we have a venue which is in the top three for facilities in British Speedway. “The investment put into the facilities by the owners of the stadium has been very impressive and that’s one of the reasons why we get the Premier League Riders’ Championship every year. “But I feel we deserve more big meetings and certainly a World Cup event here would go down extremely well.” Owlerton has staged a World Cup event once before in 2002 when Great Britain just missed out on qualification for the final in a rain-affected meeting to Australia. “It’s something for us to look at for the future because we have a world class venue and I would like it to happen,” said Bates. “King’s Lynn do a great job, but wouldn’t it be nice for Great Britain to have the race-off and the final with, say Sheffield and Belle Vue hosting them?”

CRADLEY entertain Kent in the City Gearboxes National League on Wednesday looking to go back to the top of the table. And Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson says the club are enjoying the competition of the 2015 NL, with the top five teams currently separated by just one point.Pearson said: “This is the most wide open National League for years and I personally think it’s good for the sport. “In a couple of weeks we stage our home league meeting with Birmingham and I believe that could be the biggest meeting of National League racing for years – but we must beat Kent. We won at Kent when we went down there but they will be licking their wounds coming to Perry Barr looking for some revenge against us.”Meanwhile King’s Lynn’s National League KO Cup match against Buxton was postponed due to the time taken to return the stadium to normal following Monday’s World Cup event.Promoter Keith Chapman said: “I don't like having to postpone meetings, whether it be for Elite League or National League, but this time, we are unable to avoid it.“The stadium will not be ready, so we have to move the fixture to another date which will be announced soon. We are very sorry to the supporters who were looking forward to the meeting.”
