Speedway World Cup 2015, Stage is set for classic Final

The stage is set, the teams are ready and it’s almost time for the 2015 FIM Monster Energy Speedway World Cup Final.

The leafy suburb of Vojens, Denmark is the host venue for the showpiece event of international team racing and Thursday’s last chance Race-Off saw Poland battle their way to Saturday’s Final after a titanic duel with Great Britain.

The Race-Off never fails to deliver and it was another nerve-shredder for the fans with GB and Poland going bar-to-bar all night long, but it was the young Polish side who prevailed with an impressive show of grit and determination.

Their main challenger was our very own Monster charger Tai Woffinden, who left jaws on the floor with a display of sheer perfection. He literally did not put a wheel out of place all night, grabbing 21 points from a possible 21 and winning most of his races by half a straight.

He may have ended up on the losing side, but he was undoubtedly the star of the show. “I don’t really enjoy this track that much, I haven’t really had a meeting like that here before but to come and do it is sweet. 21 points from 21, what can I say?” he said.

“I’m gunna really get my head down and work hard now to try and push on, sometimes if you’re going good during the World Cup your form goes downhill afterwards so I’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen now. I’m feeling good though so we’ll see how we go.”

USA’s fledgling team, led as ever by the evergreen Greg Hancock, were always facing a tough task but they showed heaps of spirit to finish overall third on the night.

The world champ told us: “It’s a battle for them, but the guys understood the task and gave it their all. We said ‘guys, the worst that can happen is we finish fourth’ but we did well and again we haven’t finished last in a World Cup meeting. We’re going to go away from this thing as winners because we made it to the Race-Off and gave a good show of ourselves.”Over 17,000 people will take the pilgrimage to the picturesque Vojens Speedway Center for the Final where the home favourites Denmark will hope to win their second title in a row, but they’ll face some fierce opponents.

Sweden, Poland and Australia are all hungry for national glory and have the tools to do it, so make sure you check in at MonsterEnergy.com over the weekend to see which nation will rise and emerge victorious.
