Plato takes 5th win of season

Jason Plato has won the second of Sunday's three Green Flag British Touring Car rounds at Knockhill – the SEAT Sport UK driver becoming the first five-times race winner of the 2004 season.

Plato led all the way from pole position in front of live ITV1 cameras but, following a brief safety car period, the closing stages were a close-fought affair as he needed to defend from Computeach Racing with Halfords Honda drivers Matt Neal and Dan Eaves who finished second and third.

Neal’s second place assured him of victory in the HarrierZeuros Independents Trophy, while Eaves earned a bonus point for setting the race’s fastest lap.

Reigning champion Yvan Muller finished fourth to re-take the championship lead from Vauxhall team-mate James Thompson who failed to finish the race after his Astra suffered accident damage. The gap between them heading into this afternoon’s third race is now out to seven points.
