Wins take Reid to title contention

Scotland’s Anthony Reid  won the third of Sunday's three Green Flag British Touring Car rounds at his home circuit of Knockhill – making it two in total for the day. The race, screened live by ITV1, will go down as one of the most exciting in BTCC history.

Reid, driving the WSR team’s MG, fought his way through from seventh on the grid to pass Computeach Racing with Halfords Honda driver Dan Eaves for the lead. Eaves, who himself had hit the front after overtaking SEAT Sport UK’s Jason Plato, was second. Plato eventually slipped back to seventh.

Reid, whose outright win assured him of HarrierZeuros Independents Trophy victory, also earned two bonus points for setting the race’s fastest lap and leading the race.

WSR’s Colin Turkington and Vauxhall’s James Thompson each put in sensational drives from the back of the grid to finish an excellent third and fourth respectively, while Plato slipped to seventh.

With three race meetings to go, starting at Brands Hatch on 22 August, Thompson trails team-mate Yvan Muller in the title race by just one point. Muller finished Knockhill’s third race ninth after spinning off the track. Reid is third in the overall standings, 23 points behind leader Muller having arrived at Knockhill 45 adrift.
