GLASGOW star Nick Morris believes he and Richard Lawson have a strong chance of success in Friday’s Premier League Pairs at Somerset.Morris was involved in the controversial ending to last year’s meeting when he was racing for the home club, when he fell and was disqualified from the Final, and he is now looking to bring silverware back to Ashfield. He said: “Because I’d been riding for Somerset last year, it would have been a great feeling to have won it on my home track but it just wasn’t meant to be. But this year I’m representing Glasgow and I can’t wait for it.“Me and Richard will give it our best shot – that’s guaranteed. I gained plenty of experience while I was racing for Somerset last year and I know I can win races at The Oaktree. We’re both more than happy with our performances for Glasgow, but there’s always areas you can work on and improve on, and if we could do that by winning the Pairs then that would be great.”
(SPEEDWAY 2 - WEDNESDAY REVIEW)
KING’S Lynn snatched a dramatic late victory over reigning Elite League Champions Poole in a thrilling finale at the Adrian Flux Arena. The Stars won 47-46 having seen an early ten-point lead gradually whittled away by a Pirates side who operated rider-replacement for No.1 Chris Holder, after the Australian was taken ill in the pits following the track walk.Poole led by a point going into the last race but teenage sensation Robert Lambert blasted past Maciej Janowski on the opening lap with Niels-Kristian Iversen then retrieving a vital third place from Dakota North.King’s Lynn promoter Keith Chapman said: “What a great meeting for the supporters and Sky TV. We needed a result in the last and thankfully Robert and Niels came through with the points to keep our unbeaten run going at home.”Poole promoter Matt Ford said: “Right now I feel absolutely gutted but I will reflect on the result and take the positives from it. We were really on the back foot from the get-go and things began to look bleak as the Stars were hitting us hard from the gate, but the team showed considerable character when it would have been far easier to allow their heads to drop. “I really thought we had done enough in the last heat but take nothing away from Robert Lambert, who has been something of a nemesis to us up there this season, and Niels-Kristian Iversen who both fought superbly well to do the task that was required of them.”In the City Gearboxes National League Birmingham are now ten points clear at the top after a 51-38 win over Mildenhall at Perry Barr, with Zach Wajtknecht scoring a 15-point maximum. The Brummies did suffer an injury blow with Tom Perry crashing out in a Heat 13 incident, although initial fears of a broken wrist have proved unfounded. Perry does still face up to three weeks out with a small fracture to a bone in his hand.Manager Graham Drury said: “We lost Adam Kirby after two rides as well and that meant it was another whole team effort to dig deep and get the league points.“It's great to be ten-points clear at the top and we'll take our recent momentum into next Wednesday's meeting at King's Lynn.”
(SPEEDWAY 3 - THURSDAY PREVIEW)
SWINDON and Wolverhampton both have plenty to go for in Thursday’s Elite League clash at the Abbey Stadium.Robins boss Alun Rossiter admits his side’s play-off hopes are hanging in the balance after a problematic recent run, whilst Wolves were beaten 50-40 at home by Coventry on Monday.Hans Andersen deputises for Adrian Miedzinski for the home side, with Nick Morris expected to be fir despite a knock when riding for his Premier League club Glasgow on Tuesday.Rossiter said: “It’s absolutely imperative that we get a win at home to Wolverhampton.“They have had a tough run themselves in recent weeks they lost at home on Monday, so we cannot be complacent because we know that will want to hit back, but this is a must-win match for us. We absolutely have to win it.”Wolves boss Peter Adams said: “We’ve got two important meetings coming up in the next week that we need to fully focus on. “It’s important to get something from Swindon on Thursday, but it’s no good just saying it we have to actually do it on the track.”In the Premier League, Ipswich can move to within a point of sixth-placed Berwick if they defeat Plymouth at Foxhall.Cameron Heeps returns to the Witches’ side after a successful recent practice session at Sheffield.Meanwhile the current bottom two in the table meet as Redcar host Scunthorpe at the Media Prime Arena.Bears boss Jitendra Duffill is looking to keep some upward momentum going after a dramatic home win over reigning champions Edinburgh last week.He said: “Scunthorpe have struggled so far this season and we must look to take another three points away from this meeting. That will lift us from the bottom of the table but we must not be complacent, you can never underestimate your opposition! “They have some good riders in their side and a certain Mr (Carl) Wilkinson will be keen to make a good impression.”The Scorpions bring in Thomas Jorgensen to guest for the injured Josh Auty, but Ryan Douglas could be fit to return.Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Ryan could possibly be back. The final decision will be up to him, and can be left fairly late as we're going to be using rider replacement for him, so it's not like there's a guest we need to notify.”(FIXTURES)
