MCE British Superbike Riders Cross The Forth Road Bridge With Road Safety MessageAt the Forth Road Bridge today, the remarkable sight of the leading riders in the premier motorcycle racing championship in Europe, the MCE British Superbike Championship, took place as they rode their race bikes across the Bridge.
Working with Amey, Transport Scotland and the MCE BSB organisers, the riders posed for photographs and conducted numerous interviews ahead of this historic crossing. All parties are driven to support the cause for rider safety on the roads and recently Knockhill hosted an event with the slogan 'Race on track, stay safe on the roads' in conjunction with Road Safety Scotland.Event organiser Stuart Gray, Knockhill Events Director, asked the riders ahead of the crossing if they could show a 'number one' sign as they crossed, to signify to their fellow riders to look after 'number one' as they ride on the roads. Championship leader Shane Image removed by sender.'Shakey' Byrne and Scottish team-mate Stuart Easton were there along with fellow Kawasaki rival James Ellison. Scottish stars Taylor and Tarran Mackenzie as well as local Ducati TriOptions champion Dennis Hobbs from nearby Kelty were all happy to oblige as they crossed the famous landmark. All the riders then headed to Knockhill under more conventional means in their own road cars and vans.The MCE British Superbike Championship is the biggest motorcycle race championship in the UK and the meeting, with over 200 riders from around the world and competing in various classes, is expected to attract a crowd of 15,000 over the weekend. The event starts tomorrow (Friday 3rd July) with practice followed by main qualifying on Saturday for the British Superbikes as well as a number of races for the support classes.
