IPSWICH secured the Premier League Pairs title with victory over the host club in Friday’s Final at Somerset.Witches duo Danny King and Rohan Tungate topped the standings in their group before overcoming Redcar in their semi-final, and they were joined by Brady Kurtz and Josh Grajczonek for the Rebels, who led the way in Group B and then defeated Peterborough in their semi. But disaster struck the hosts as for the second year in succession they had a rider disqualified in the early stages of the Final as Kurtz lifted and came to grief - with King and Tungate racing to maximum points in the re-run.Premier League Pairs reaction:Chris Louis (Ipswich co-promoter): “What a fantastic result. It was great to have a seven man team again on Thursday night and take a good win; winning this will lift the team even further. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season!”Garry May (Somerset manager): “Both Brady and Josh are gutted that they were unable to win the title for Somerset, but they have nothing to feel disappointed about as they gave it their best shot and can feel justifiably proud of the way they rode and represented the club.“Congratulations to Ipswich on winning the title, they looked a class act right from the off and carried that form right through the night to win the Championship.”Carl Johnson (Peterborough manager): “Ulrich (Ostergaard) and Michael (Palm Toft) both did the club proud with their performances.“The target was to come through the group stage and they did that with a race to spare. And they were very unlucky not to make it into the final. They were only the width of a tyre away from doing it in the end.”John Sampford (Rye House manager): “It obviously wasn’t to be, but both Edward (Kennett) and Nikolaj (Busk Jakobsen) rode their hearts out in a meeting packed with top riders, and in that sort of company you sometimes need the split second moments and luck to go your way.”

WORLD Under 21 finalist Emil Grondal is on his way to Peterborough. The highly-rated Danish star is ready to burst into British speedway after thrashing out a deal with Panthers bosses, and he makes his debut in their home fixture against Redcar on Sunday.Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “Emil could not have been any keener to be a Peterborough rider. He travelled over earlier in the season to watch one of our meetings and then returned last month with his bikes and race team to put in a few practice laps.“He has invested heavily in equipment as he is desperate to be a success over here and I’m delighted to give him the opportunity. He is a rider who excites me and who is held in very high regard back home in Denmark. He has very close links to Bjarne Pedersen who acts as his mentor.”

RYE House have moved for German youngster Danny Maassen to replace injury victim Steve Boxall.Maassen, who had a spell with Sheffield two years ago, comes in with Boxall potentially out for the remainder of the season as he needs an operation.Rockets promoter Len Silver said: “This move was completed very quickly indeed, as soon as we knew that Steve was to be absent for what looks like the best part of the season. Danny has been very keen to join us for quite some time, and we have been in daily contact. “I know he has the very best of equipment, and I am sure that his sheer enthusiasm will help him to make the move profitable for both of us. I can't wait to see him in action at Ipswich next Thursday.”
