DAMS confirms return to form in GP2

The Sarthe-based team enjoyed a reassuring weekend at Silverstone with a third place for Pierre Gasly added to two very solid races among the front-runners for the Frenchman and his English team-mate, Alex Lynn. Given the performances of the two rookies, DAMS is leaving Silverstone firmly installed in fourth place in the teams' classification, and they can look forward to the coming races with their morale reinforced. Once again the DAMS drivers had good free practice sessions (Lynn P2 and Gasly P7), during which the team found the right setups. Gasly confirmed this in qualifying by setting the sixth-fastest time on a circuit on which he was having his first outing. Lynn, on the other hand, was unable to string together his fastest sector times and ended up in 12th place on, the grid. However, the first race on Saturday confirmed DAMS' return to form. Following the inevitable safety car intervention after a pretty hectic first lap, Pierre and Alex took full advantage of the French team's excellent strategy. Gasly was always among the front-runners and drove an impeccable, masterful race gaining two places thanks to a late pit stop. He saw the flag in fourth place while his English team-mate sliced his way up through the field to snatch fifth. It was the same story the next day with yet another hectic start. Both DAMS rookies managed to avoid the pitfalls. Gasly made a great getaway and took advantage of the chaos to shot through into third place, which he held till the chequer without problems. Lynn soon suffered a damaged left-hand front tyre which handicapped him, but he hung on to fifth not losing another place until the final lap. After this demonstration of regularity and consistency in terms of performance, DAMS can now start preparing for Hungary in a serene frame of mind. The Hungaroring suits the team down to the ground as it has scored a victory and four top-3 finishes there since 2011, an encouraging series it hopes to continue!         François Sicard, Managing Director: "Overall it's been a very positive weekend as we bagged a large haul of points in both races. We're particularly happy for Pierre who was able to master a difficult circuit on which he was racing for the first time. He put on a brilliant performance and that's going to give his confidence the big boost he needed. On the other hand, we're a bit frustrated for Alex who really wanted to shine in his home race. In the first event he showed he had the speed to finish in the top three; it's just a pity he didn't manage to achieve a good lap in qualifying. This being said we're going to make sure we maintain the momentum in Hungary." Pierre Gasly: "I'm really very happy to reward the team with this podium finish for their fantastic work. I'm also very satisfied for myself as it was my first visit to Silverstone. It's a very fast circuit, but there aren't that many overtaking opportunities even with the DRS. I had a fairly good qualifying session and I drove two good races, which is great for the morale. Now we just have to continue in the same vein and clinch other top-three finishes at the next round at the Hungaroring." Alex Lynn: "The overall result's very good for the team as we scored big points. But I could really kick myself for messing up my qualifying as I had the speed to clinch a place on the first or second row. It would have made things so much easier for me in my attempts to score a top-three finish, which was my aim here at Silverstone. I'm feeling frustrated because I showed that I had the pace to finish in the top-three in race one. On Sunday I was handicapped by a problem on the left-hand front tyre, and I had to keep on defending my place. But we're going to straighten all that out for the next round!"         Silverstone summary Pierre Gasly : P4-P3 Alex Lynn : P5-P6 Classification drivers' championship 1. S.
