SPEEDWAY: Tai's Championship charge on course

TAI GOES SECOND IN MALILLA‏ Tai Woffinden’s assault on the Speedway World Championship is showing no signs of slowing up as he took home a huge points haul from the Swedish Grand Prix.

The tiny Swedish town of Malilla was the venue for SGP Round Six and even though the weather did its best to wash out another round we saw an awesome race meeting thanks to the hard work of the FIM and their team.

The G&B Arena always produces cut-throat racing and this year it was no different. Tai opened up with a third place, a race which was won by fellow claw-bearer Chris Holder, and then went unbeaten in the rest of his qualifying heats to qualify for the Semi-Final’s as top scorer.

He settled in second in his Semi to guarantee his place in the Final and he could sense victory in Malilla for a consecutive year, but a bad start left him behind early on and there was just too much to do.

He sliced through Matej Zagar and Antonio Lindback to hit second place but couldn’t catch Nicki Pedersen up front and ended up in second and added a vital 17 points on his Championship total.

That meant that nobody gained any ground on him at the top of the series standings, which was his target; “It was a good night for me, it was so wet all day but they worked really hard on the track and we got a good race on. It was tough out there but I was pleased with how it went.

“Nobody made any points up on me and as long as that keeps happening I’m pleased, 17 points is a lot and if I can keep making Final’s I’m going to score good points. Scoring a bunch of points is more important to me than getting on top of the box. I’m looking forward to the next round now, I want to keep the momentum going.”

With every race that passes Chris Holder starts to look more and more like his old self, and when he’s fully healthy and confident he’s a sight to behold. We saw some vintage CH as he raced to 10 points and now he’s just seven points off the top three.

The man he’s chasing in third is reigning Champ Greg Hancock, who collected nine points from a tough night in his adopted homeland. ‘Grin’ is still there on the tails of Pedersen and Woffinden, but he’s got some hungry lions chasing him down too and needs to watch his back.

The next round sees a brand new venue take centre stage, the CASA Arena in Horsens, Denmark. With more points up for grabs it’s going to be another epic battle, so make sure you’re locked into MonsterEnergy.com for the full wrap.
