Sports Car Drivers from the Past and Present Entered for Second Edition of Classic 24, November 13 – 15, at Daytona International Speedway
A stellar lineup of sports car racing stars from the past and the present, and an iconic collection of equally legendary race cars, are already officially entered for the second-annual Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Classic 24 Hour at Daytona, presented by IMSA, November 13 – 15, at Daytona International Speedway.
The list of current and legendary drivers confirmed for the Classic 24 includes Hurley Haywood, Gijs Van Lennep, Patrick Long, Justin Wilson, Scott Sharp, Jeff Zwart, Jim Pace, Shane Lewis, Mike Skeen, Gunnar Jeanette and many more.
The iconic racing machines these drivers and other Classic 24 competitors will race in the Daytona event is a rolling showcase of top sports cars and prototypes from the past 50 years.
Current entry list highlights include such venerable race cars as the Audi R8 LMP, BMW CSL, Pescarolo LMP, Porsche 962, Chevron B19, Chevron B26, Dekon Monza and the Ferrari GTB4, among others.
Detroit-iron V8 Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s are well represented along with a variety of small-bore gems, like the Alfa Romeo GT Jr, BMW 2002, the Lotus Elan and Porsche 914s.
Porsche 911s of every description are also heading to the Classic 24. Already entered is a mix of early-generation 2-liter cars, 1970's era RSRs, IROCs and 935s and more recent 996, 997 and GT3 Cup cars.
The Classic 24 also has, among its various classes and six run groups, categories for more recent race cars. Contemporary sports cars already slated to compete include the Oreca FLM09 and several generations of Riley Daytona Prototypes.
The Classic 24 features six period-correct run groups rotating through a full 24 hours of racing on the 3.56-mile Daytona road course. The run groups, which include various classes of similar-era race cars, each take to the track four times throughout the 24 hours. The competitors in each class covering the most total distance in their group's four sessions will be crowned Classic 24 at Daytona champions.
