Double BRDC F4 podium for Haggerty at Brands Hatch

Young Scot now fourth in championship standings

Ecurie Ecosse Young Driver Initiative member Ciaran Haggerty enjoyed a successful outing at Brands Hatch last weekend (August 1/2) during rounds 13/14/15 of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship.

The Graham Brunton Racing driver picked up some all-important points with two podiums and a sixth place at the former British Grand Prix venue. A solid performance in Kent means the young Scot now sits fourth in the championship standings.

Following a strong qualifying session on Saturday, Ciaran lined up third on the grid for the opening race of the weekend. A good start saw him snatch second from Harri Newey at Paddock Hill Bend en route to a stunning podium finish for the Renfrewshire youngster.

Race 2’s partially reversed grid meant that Haggerty started Sunday’s opening contest from seventh. Having dropped one place down the order at the start, the Ecurie Ecosse Young Driver recovered to take seventh just before a spin from Jack Lang called for a Safety Car period.

Ciaran suffered some damage to the front of the Graham Brunton Racing-run machine as the field bunched into one another at the restart. However, he persevered to take sixth at the finish, and an all-important 15 points towards his championship bid.

The final race of the weekend saw Haggerty start from P4. While he held on to his position at the green flag, it wasn’t until Druids that he was able to take advantage of Jack Bartholomew with a move around the outside for third.

As a result, the 18-year-old spent the remainder of the contest chasing Chris Dittmann Racing’s Omar Ismail right up to the chequered flag, eventually crossing the line only 0.126sec shy of another second place finish.

Ciaran Haggerty: “This weekend was a real success for me and, of course, the entire Graham Brunton Racing squad. A double podium and sixth means that we’ve secured a decent points haul ahead of the next outing at Snetterton. Now, the plan is to have a short break, keep my fitness up, and perform at the same level for the remainder of the season.”

Ciaran gets back behind the wheel on 21-23 August for round 16/17/18 of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship.
