Alex Jones Pleased with Formula Vee Progress Ahead of Silverstone

Alex Jones, continues to make solid progress in his third season of racing in the 750MC Formula Vee Championship.

Brands Hatch (Indy): 25-26 AprilJones had a character-building start to the season when contact from another competitor in the early stages of qualifying left Jones unable to continue the session and he was forced to start the first of the weekends' races down in 25th position.

However, in Race 1, he made a perfect start and picked off no fewer than 8 places on the opening lap before the red flags drew a premature end to the race.

After the restart, Jones again moved up the field from his grid position and kept up consistent pace before having to settle for P15.

In the second race, the DaTaMabs-backed driver only just made it to the assembly area after his battery failed minutes before the start. However, his Bears Motorsport team were able to swiftly replace the battery and get him out in the running just in time.

Starting from P26, Jones limited the damage by keeping his cool and making the most of others' mistakes in the wet conditions, eventually finishing the race in a creditable 17th place.

Croft: 23-24 MayIn Race 1, Jones struggled with gearbox issues and dropped to the back of the field. However, he got his head down and caught up with the rest of the pack, hunting down all the positions he could before the chequered flag dropped, eventually finishing just outside the top 10.

Having made a few alterations to his set-up for Race 2, Jones got away with a blistering start and got himself well inside the top 10 before eventually finishing in P9 - his best position in the championship to date.

Cadwell Park: 20-21 JuneA minor error on his first flying lap in qualifying meant that Jones was forced to sit out the rest of the session as the team repaired the car.

Defaulting to the back of the grid for Race 1, Jones wasted no time in making up for lost ground and gained no fewer than seven places before the red flags came out due to an incident, postponing the race.

Once the race was restarted, Jones successfully completed a series of bold manoeuvres at Park Corner and finished the race just outside the top 10.

In Race 2, starting from the back of the field, he soon got himself up into the mid-pack, chasing the battling pair for 12th and 13th, before a spin going into The Mountain undid most his hard work.

With the remaining time on the clock, Jones kept calm and clawed his way back up to finish 18th with an impressive and solid drive.

Alex Jones:"There are a lot of positives we can take from these 6 races so far this season. I'm happy with the progress we're making in the races but we've had our share of bad luck in qualifying which has left us playing catch-up over the race weekend so we definitely need to work on that.

"We've had some issues with the front suspension throughout the year which has caused the front wheels to lock very easily so I've had to adapt my driving to balance that out. However, the team are upgrading the front suspension and hopefully this will allow us to make better use of qualifying.

"The race pace is constantly improving and Bears Motorsport are doing a fantastic job. I can't wait to get back in the car for Silverstone, where we will have the upgrades to our package, so now we have to aim for more top-10 finishes in the coming races."
