SHEFFIELD’S Arthur Sissis will return to hospital on Wednesday to establish whether he needs an operation - and club bosses are already resigned to him missing the rest of the season.Sissis was the match winner in Saturday’s 42-41 victory at Berwick, but a Heat 15 crash left him with torn ligaments in his shoulder and his collarbone has separated from the shoulder.Co-promoter Damien Bates said: “Once again we are going to have to make changes to keep our play-off push going.“I’m looking at the possibility of bringing Andre Compton back into the side. Certain riders will know they have to up their game.“It’s shocking news for Arthur who was brilliant at Berwick. I can’t quite believe what’s happening this season – if we didn’t have bad luck we wouldn’t have any!”(SPEEDWAY 3 - SUNDAY REVIEW)

EDWARD Kennett raced to a six-ride paid maximum as Rye House overcame Workington 51-42 at Hoddesdon in the Premier League on Sunday. The Rockets’ hopes of being at full strength for the first time since the end of March were scuppered by Nikolaj B Jakobsen being diagnosed with a suspected broken coccyx from a crash in Denmark last week. However, Kennett’s unbeaten show was well backed by Kasper Lykke on 12+1 whilst Ricky Wells (17) and Rene Bach contributed the bulk of the Comets’ points.Kennett said: “I felt that I had plenty of speed all day, and that makes it so much easier to come from the back. All my equipment this year has been fantastic, and I felt really confident and comfortable on the bike.“We’ve realistically lost the battle for the play-offs, but it’s still about our pride and winning as many of our remaining League matches as we can in order to finish in a good position.”Elsewhere, Steve Worrall was also a paid maximum man, with 14+1 from five rides, as Newcastle overcame Berwick 53-37 at Brough Park.Ludvig Lindgren added 11+1, with Thomas Jorgensen (14) and guest Rob Branford (11+1) contributing well for the Bandits, but they were unable to take a point from the meeting.Diamonds boss George English said: “I am delighted with our all-round performance, the Berwick side put in a good effort and were helped by the strong performance of their guests but in the end it was a good win with some entertaining racing.”Berwick manager John Anderson said: “I am pleased with tonight despite the defeat, as early on we showed some good bite especially Thomas who certainly showed why he’s won the number one jacket. “Coty (Garcia) found himself on a massive learning curve on a track like that but I’m sure the experience has done him good.”In the City Gearboxes National League, Buxton raced to a 47-43 win over Birmingham at Hi-Edge, meaning the leaders were limited to just one point. And even that was in doubt until maximum man Adam Ellis and Tom Perry both made passing moves on the last bend of Heat 15 to secure a 4-2.Captain Tony Atkin led a solid effort from the Hitmen with 11 points, whilst the Brummies’ three heat-leaders contributed 33 of their team’s 43 points.Buxton boss Jason Pipe said: “I’m proud of everyone in the team today. The boys were well up for this and to beat the league leaders was a massive win for us. We made it count in those vital heats of 2, 8 and 14, where we collected three 4-2s.“Tony Atkin was back to his best again after having his engine looked at. A great team captain’s performance, both on and off the track, which is why all the lads wanted to give him the bumps after his match-winning Heat 14.”Birmingham boss Graham Drury said: “I’m hugely relieved that we managed to get something out of the meeting in the end but overall I'm disappointed with today's performance.“Our tail end were really poor again; we threw away some stupid points when in scoring positions and that ultimately cost us the win. Who knows how crucial that league point could be, but there were unacceptable areas for us today and I need to strongly look at the options available to me for our final three meetings of the season.”Stoke kept their top four hopes alive with a 46-44 win at Mildenhall as the Potters became the first visiting team to win at West Row in the league this season.Home captain Danny Halsey won the last race but Potters duo Lee Payne, who scored 13, and Jon Armstrong packed the minor places to ensure an away win.Mildenhall promoter Kevin Jolly said: “The lads did all we could have asked of them and we took a number of positives from the performance. In particular Danny Halsey was back to his brilliant best and his rides in both Heat 13 and 15 were worth the admission on their own. “Although defeated today we will go into next Sunday’s meeting with plenty of confidence and will be looking to beat the Kent Kings for a second time this season at West Row.”Stoke boss Malcolm Vasey said: “I’m delighted with what was an excellent win for us, everyone in the team contributed points towards our victory and that is something I’d called for prior to the meeting. “Everyone rode their hearts out and I couldn’t really ask anything more from the team as Mildenhall are very good around their home track and don’t get beaten easily around here.”Meanwhile Craig Cook snatched victory in Glasgow’s Peugeot International Speedway Championship with a last-bend passing move.Cook, who had made the Final with a 15-point maximum, got the better of home star Richard Lawson in the crucial race, with Josh Grajczonek in third place.Cook admitted he had made the wrong gate choice, but still came out on top, saying: “I don't know what I was thinking - you don't let Richard Lawson off the inside of you - not with a good gate like gate two. He just popped out and went.“It made it a bit more interesting for the fans and gave them something to watch. It probably wasn't great for the Glasgow fans but it was great racing nevertheless.”

BELLE Vue host Swindon in a massive Elite League showdown on Monday which could be crucial to the play-off race. The two sides are level on 40 points but the visitors, who are in fifth place, have four matches in hand - making it a must-win encounter for the Aces. Both sides are at full strength with Swindon welcoming Nick Morris back into the side and handing full debuts to Aaron Summers and recently recruited reserve Robert Branford.Belle Vue boss Mark Lemon said: “Swindon have strengthened up quite nicely since the last time they came here, and even then they pushed us hard and took the match to a last heat decider that could've gone either way.“The Robins have been travelling quite well lately, but at Kirkmanshulme Lane they won't be faced with a team that has consistently struggled as often as some of their more recent opponents.“We are fourth in the league for a reason and are prepared to battle as hard as them, if not harder, for every point we can get. It's vital we win all our remaining fixtures. There's too much riding on it.”Robins newcomer Summers said: “It’s going to be a tough one but Swindon seem to have been in good form recently, Darcy (Ward) is doing the business and Troy (Batchelor) has picked up his form as well.“Hopefully we can all ride well and I can have a good debut to try and come away with what could be a really important win.”Meanwhile Wolverhampton face Leicester in a Midlands derby at Monmore Green, and welcome Josh Bates back after he recovered from a shoulder injury. The Lions have named former Wolves riders Ludvig Lindgren and Ashley Morris as well as Monmore specialist Jason Garrity as their guests.Wolves promoter Chris Van Straaten said: “It’s a big meeting for us against Leicester, and we really need to win to make sure we don’t finish bottom of the table.“We have to lift the spirits of the boys and do our very best to come away with three points to move us clear of the bottom, because that’s the only thing we can really aim for from this season now.”Leicester boss Norrie Allan said: “Like us, the Wolves have been patchy at home and we have to exploit that weakness. “We have the best guests possible at reserve who ride the Monmore Green track really well and everyone in the team will be fired up for this one as a positive result is of the utmost importance if we are to close the points difference with Wolverhampton in the table.”In the City Gearboxes National League, Eastbourne will look to close the gap on leaders Birmingham when they visit Kent. The Eagles trail the Brummies by 18 points but have four matches in hand and also have home and away fixtures to come against the Perry Barr club.(FIXTURES)
