Pirelli Motorsport Weekend Review

Claman de Melo and Steele are F3 winners with Pirelli

Zach Claman de Melo may have won both MSVR F3 Cup races last weekend at Brands Hatch, but Aaron Steele was also a winner with a brace of second-place finishes taking him one step closer to securing the title in the Pirelli-backed series.

A guest driver for the Carlin team, Claman de Melo claimed pole position for race one on the Grand Prix circuit ahead of Louis Hamilton-Smith, who retired on the first lap. That allowed Steele, who had started fourth, up to second – a position he would hold to the flag. Stuart Wiltshire was third, with the race red-flagged on lap six following a clash between Henry Chart and Daniel Tapinos.

Claman de Melo then enjoyed another lights-to-flag victory in race two, with the field opting for Pirelli slick tyres despite the looming clouds. Grays Motorsport driver Steele and Jigsaw Motorsport’s Hamilton-Smith doing the same in second and third places respectively.

The final round of the championship will take place at Silverstone on September 12-13.Morris and Speed hold advantage in Pirelli Porsches

Reigning champion Pete Morris has a healthy 62-point lead as the Pirelli-supplied Fuel Protect Porsche Club Championship travels to Snetterton this weekend for round five of seven.

Morris scored two podium finishes in the last round at Brands Hatch at the start of August to maintain his series lead ahead of Paul Winter and Craig Wilkins, who are separated by just a point in the standings in second and third place respectively.

In Class Two the competition is closer, with Tim Speed holding a slender six-point advantage over Dave Botterill and Brands category winner Jonathan Evans a further two points back.

As usual the Snetterton 300 round in Norfolk will feature two races for the series, with the remaining rounds to be held at Oulton Park and Croft in September.British Superbike stars to meet fans ahead of Pirelli-backed Cadwell races

Bike racing fans will have the chance to meet their heroes when leading contenders in the British Superbike Championship – run in association with Pirelli – visit Lincoln for a meet-and-greet session on Thursday (August 20).

The hour-long event comes ahead of this weekend’s BSB races at nearby Cadwell Park, with teams and riders appearing in Lincoln High Street from 1pm. Among the riders taking part in the autograph and photo session will be championship leader Josh Brookes, defending champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and Buildbase BMW local contenders Ryuichi Kiyonari and Lee Jackson, among others.

There will also be some bikes on display including Brookes’ Milwaukee Yamaha, Honda Racing’s Fireblade, the title-defending PBM Kawasaki and Jackson’s Buildbase BMW.

More than 30 entries are expected for this weekend’s ‘Party in the Park’ races at Cadwell, also known as the ‘Mountain’, with former MotoGP star John Hopkins back in action on a Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati.

Palmer heads Pirelli F4 racers to Snetterton

An on-form Will Palmer will be the man to catch as the Pirelli-supported Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship makes its second visit of the year to Snetterton this weekend.

HHC Motorsport driver Palmer leads the series following a double victory last time out at Brands Hatch – and he was a winner when the championship last raced at the Norfolk circuit in July.

Palmer’s closest challenger is Lanan Racing’s Rodrigo Fonseca. The Mexican has shown great consistency in 2015 but has his work cut out to close the 69-point gap to Palmer. Tom Jackson’s three podium finishes from the last six races means the Chris Dittmann Racing driver is now third in the points, just 13 off Fonseca, with Brands double podium finisher Ciaran Haggerty (Ecurie Ecosse) and Palmer’s team-mate Harri Newey not far behind in fourth and fifth.

Qualifying and race one will be held on Saturday with races two and three on Sunday. There will also be an hour-long highlights programme of the races available on ITV4 and BT Sport a week after the event.Coming up next time:  Britain’s GP2 and GP3 hopefuls in action at Spa-Francorchamps.
