McCarthy rejoins Carrera Cup

Perry McCarthy will return to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for the pair of races at Brands Hatch this weekend (21/22 August) to handle the VIP car entered by Porsche Cars GB.The former Grand Prix driver will build on his previous weekend in the VIP car at Brands back in April and is aiming to return to the podium, having finished a fine third last time out."I really enjoyed the races in April and that's why I'm so pleased to be back again," he says. "The championship is so professional and everyone is so friendly. That's why I'm happy to be involved again."McCarthy, who proved a real crowd favourite during the April weekend, hopes that the experience he gained then will boost him this weekend. "Each lap I was processing a bit more information and that was getting increasingly successful. If I've managed to remember some of it, I've got a better platform to build from."However, McCarthy knows that the racers at the head of the Carrera Cup action are extremely quick. "I've never under-estimated these drivers in these cars. But we'll have loads of fun and try and beat them!"The Carrera Cup weekend is the start of a varied and busy spell of racing for McCarthy as on subsequent weekends he will race a Group C car at Donington, then compete in the Goodwood Revival Meeting before contesting the Le Mans Endurance Series race at Spa-Francorchamps! "I'm having great fun this year just taking a few drives that I really want to do," he says. After testing on Friday and qualifying on Saturday at Brands, McCarthy will contest rounds 15 and 16 of the Carrera Cup GB on Sunday (22 August).
