•West Thurrock team returns to scene of best ever BTCC result•Mike Bushell eager to build on break-through top ten•Jack Sears Trophy target from Scottish weekend
The AmDTuning.com team will hope to maintain the progress made at Snetterton when the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Scotland this weekend for the seventh round of the year. The West Thurrock-based team makes the long journey to Knockhill, overlooking the Firth of Forth, seeking to build on a first top ten finish of the season last time out, which helped reigning Clio Cup UK champion Mike Bushell secure his second Jack Sears Trophy of the season. Knockhill will be the first event of the year where Mike has previous experience of racing in the BTCC, having made his debut in the series in a one-off event at the circuit in a Chevrolet Cruze back in 2013. Having endured a challenging start to his first full season in the championship, Mike showed his speed at the wheel of his Ford Focus last time out in Norfolk, snaring his best result to date and only missing out on a second strong points scoring result thanks to an off-track excursion in race three. The 26-year-old will aim to show that pace again this weekend at a venue where he took two pole positions and a race win en-route to the Clio title last year, with the aim being to again secure top rookie honours amongst the Jack Sears Trophy contingent. "I really hope we can build on the top ten result we picked up at Snetterton and have another strong weekend," he said. "The aim is to hit the ground running in FP1 and then work to hold onto and build on that pace through Saturday to try and secure a good place on the grid. "Having won the Jack Sears Trophy last time out, I want to win it again this weekend and the fact it could be wet should play into my hands as I've always been good in wet conditions. "I have fond memories of Knockhill as I almost scored points on my BTCC debut - ironically before I was taken off by someone in a Ford Focus - and I won there in the Clios last year. I love the circuit and I'm keen to see what progress we've made as I know the team has been hard at work on the car to make some changes to help push us forwards. "Circuits like Knockhill play to the strengths of the Focus and if we can break into the top ten in race two as we did at Snetterton then we have a chance or benfitting from the reverse grid draw. If we can do that, then anything could happen..."
For AmDTuning.com, Knockhill is a circuit that holds happy memories after the team secured a stunning podium finish in the third and final race of the weekend twelve months ago – with team boss Shaun Hollamby saying he was hopeful that Mike would provide further reason to cheer this time around. "After a tough run of form before the summer break, it was good to see Mike back in the points at Snetterton and nice to pick up some more silverware," he said. "It was a good boost going into a circuit where we know the Ford will be strong based on what happened last year, and it would be a dream result if we could repeat that this time around. "We know that won't be easy but it's a realistic aim to think we can be pushing towards the top ten and if you can get into that position in race two then luck can always be on your side with the draw. Without doubt, there is no reason why we can't fight for Jack Sears Trophy honours again at the very least. "To do that though, we know we need to qualify better than we did at Snetterton as it won't be as easy to make up places at Knockhill given how tight the circuit is. We need to make sure we make the right calls in terms of the car and in terms of getting track position in qualifying to try and get inside the top 15 on the grid and that will put us right in the mix for race day." Mike will be the lone representative for the AmDTuning.com team this weekend, with the Knockhill meeting not being part of Nicolas Hamilton’s five event programme.
