Snetterton 300 Debut for Porsche Racers

The Fuel Protect Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli runners take on the Snetterton 300 circuit for the first time this Saturday (August 22nd) and if the series regulars can maintain the high standard of racing that has been the key feature of  the 2015 season so far then it should be a great day at the Norfolk circuit.. Close and exciting lead battles in both the championship classes have resulted in great racing and close finishes, and the long Snetterton 300 lap with its mix of testing corners and longs straights should be no exception.

Brands Hatch at the beginning of the month saw wins for Gary Duckman and Craig Wilkins, with championship leader Pete Morris continuing his run of podium finishes keeping his title defence on track. Duckman’s Boxster has been the main threat to the 996 dominance at the front of the pack, but is expected to be absent this weekend, so it should be former champion and 2015 race-winner Mark McAleer, who suffered gearbox issues in his 996 at Brands, taking the fight to Morris and Wilkins.

The 996 ranks have swelled in the class in recent seasons as the older 911 variants have risen in value, and Paul Winter, Mike Johnson and Kevin Harrison have all claimed podium finishes in the first of the water-cooled 911 variants. All three are keen to add thir names to the 2015 tally of race winners and any slip from the established front-runenrs will see them right there.

Providing variety in Class One has been the Cayman S of Chris Dyer, who took a podium finish at Donington, the first for the model and a fine reward for the Strasse team who introduced the car to the series. Other Caymans will be out in the hands of Gary Sullivan and disabled racer Nathalie McGloin, her car equipped with hand controls and an automatic PDK gearbox.

Class Two has been equally tight, with a variety of models battling for supremacy. Tim Speed won the opening two rounds at Brands Hatch in his 968 CS, while it was the Boxster S of Jonathan Evans that was the car to beat at Silverstone in June.

Donington Park last month provided two stunning class battles, Dave Botterill in his 964 C2 taking a dramatic win in the opening race, while in race two a multi-car dice saw Speed come out on top. Steve Cheetham took a fine victory as the series returned to Brands earlier this month, Evans winning the second race of the day.

Class Three provides a low-cost route into the series with restrictions on tyre use etc., with Mission Motorsport’s James Cameron setting the pace with John Gilmore.

Qualifying is at 9.00 on Saturday morning with the two 25-minute races at 13.35 and 16.31.
