Templeman does the double at Brands
Porsche Carrera Cup Great BritainJason Templeman completed a perfect weekend by winning round 16 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch today (Sunday, 22 August). Despite a safety car period at the start of the race, Templeman (Team VLR) stayed cool and then pulled clear to take his second victory of the day with another superb drive. Meanwhile, second place for Richard Westbrook (Red Line Racing) took him to within five points of championship leader Tim Harvey (Team RPM)."It’s been a brilliant weekend to say the least," said Templeman. "I don’t think you could get a better set-up on the car," he added.Off the start there was drama when Chris Cooper (Team Parker Racing) was clipped and spun heavily into the barriers. Then, at Druids, Tom Ferrier (Team Parker Racing) was edged onto the grass under braking and speared into the gravel, taking David Pinkney (Pinkney Motorsport) and Nigel Rice (Red Line Racing) with him. After a safety car period while the stricken cars were moved, Templeman maintained his lead and pulled steadily clear as Westbrook chased with Damien Faulkner (Motorbase Performance) on his tail. While Templeman edged away, Westbrook fended off Faulkner to take second and move right into contention with Harvey in the championship standings. "He didn’t make a big enough mistake for me to capitalise on," accepted Faulkner, despite challenging Westbrook repeatedly over the closing stages.Jonathan Fildes (TCR) went with the leaders to score an excellent fourth place while Marcus Thomas (Team VLR) drove a strong race to take fifth. However, at the finish Thomas had Harvey right on his tail. Having started from the back of the grid, Harvey stormed up to fifth place on the opening lap before the safety car came out. However, he had picked up some bodywork damage and a front tyre went down while running behind the safety car. Harvey pitted for a wheel change and rejoined at the back of the pack once more. From there, he fought through to sixth.Suddenly, in the course of one day, Harvey’s 29-point lead had been slashed to just five. "Tim’s had a shocker this weekend," said Westbrook. "We all have them! We were always hoping his bad luck would come and now it has. Now it’s a level playing field," said Westbrook as he looked ahead to the final four races of the season.Behind Harvey, Perry McCarthy battled through to take seventh in the VIP entry from Porsche Cars GB as Gary and Andy Britnell (Motorbase Performance) and Jason Young (Red Line Racing) battled over the remaining top 10 places.Provisional results (25 laps)1 Jason Templeman (Team VLR) 25m21.543s2 Richard Westbrook (Red Line Racing) 25m23.931s3 Damien Faulkner (Motorbase Performance) 25m24.103s4 Jonathan Fildes (TCR) 25m25.038s5 Marcus Thomas (Team VLR) 25m32.677s6 Tim Harvey (RPM Motorsport) 25m32.810s7 Perry McCarthy (Porsche Cars GB) 25m38.934s8 Gary Britnell (Motorbase Performance) 25m39.465s9 Andy Britnell (Motorbase Performance) 25m39.902s10 Jason Young (Red Line Racing) 25m41.841s
