Cole Aims For One Better

Damian Cole will be looking to go one better on the Mewla National Rally on Sunday 29th August and is aiming for first place having narrowly missed out last time on the undulating mountain roads on the Epynt Military ranges, when two spins on the final stages in damp conditions cost him overall victory on the Harry Flatters Rally in early August .The Hereford based Welshman had planned to use his Subaru Impreza World Rally Car on the rally, but due to his Kwik-Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship commitments a week later on the Ulster Rally, the ACE Motorsport prepared Darrian T90 GTR will make its second outing of the month at the popular venue.

Cole will pair up with Welsh co-driver Llinos Jones-Edwards for the Mewla and will relish the chance to compete against his co-driver from the Flatters, Gwynfor Jones, who sits alongside John Dalton in very similar machinery for the Mewla.

"We had a slender lead until we spun on the Flatters. John and Gwynfor are quick over the ranges and we should have a good battle with them as long as it remains dry. We finished second on this event in 2002, so we hope to go that one place higher in 2004, but the competition will be tough as any of the top ten are capable of taking the win over Epynt. If it is glorious sunshine, the Darrians can use the 2.5 rear wheel drive power to good advantage, but if it rains it could be a completely different outcome."

Spectator access to the classic Epynt ranges is via the A40 turning up to the ranges at Llywel, between Sennybridge and Llandovery. The action starts at 9am, continuing throughout the day before heading to Builth Wells for the finish and prizegiving.
