ALMS - Lieb out again
"It's just unbelievable. We're going out there, giving the best we can, driving the same way we do it the whole weekend. I just hit the curb a little bit and the control arm broke. The same thing happened last year [at Road America] with Jörg with the same car. It's a really, really strange failure and a big disappointment because again we were fast, again we were leading the race and again we didn't finish." "The car was fine, we had a really good setup," Lieb said. "It's really hard to pass here, so I was just driving behind Jörg, waiting for a mistake. He finally made one, so I got by. And then it was the same with me. We were doing exactly the same speeds and it was a really nice and clean fight. He was behind me and he said I just barely touched the curb. He was lucky he didn't hit me because I did two 360s down there. Lieb qualified second in GT with a lap time of two minutes 8.353 seconds on the 4.048-mile road course. He drove the first race stint and moved to the class lead just 21 minutes into the two-hour 45-minute race. He had a comfortable lead over fellow Porsche factory driver Jörg Bergmeister of Germany when a ball joint on the lower control arm of the left-rear suspension broke on the car at 44 minutes, spinning him off track. He made a slow lap back to the pit lane for repairs, and Dumas took the second stint, returning to the track at 1h10. He was sidelined at 2h19 with a clutch failure that put the pair out of the race. Marc Lieb's roller-coaster season continued on Sunday, when a mechanical failure took him out of the American Le Mans Series race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. Lieb, of Niefern, Germany, and his co-driver, Romain Dumas of France, were leading the GT class when a suspension component broke on the No. 24 Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.
