Stokes prepares for BHRC return
David Stokes will be back in the Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally before the end of the season despite his massive accident on the Manx Historic Rally at the end of July. The Gloucestershire charger has a fresh Mk1 Escort in build and is aiming to tackle the Trackrod and Bulldog rallies in October despite destroying his previous car in a high-speed roll on the Isle of Man."It was a very big accident," acknowledges Stokes, who suffered broken bones in his hand and a cracked cheekbone in the shunt. Co-driver Den Golding was uninjured. "I'd like to thank everyone involved in the accident, including the marshals and the medical teams. Also, the other competitors who stopped including Dominic Frattaroli and Dessie Nutt, who were brilliant.""We already had a spare shell, which had been painted two weeks before the Manx. It's coming together very well and the engine and gearbox from the old car are going in now," he says. Although the car could be ready for the next BHRC event, the Tour of Flanders on 11/12 September, Stokes is realistically aiming at the Trackrod on 2 October to allow his hand to heal properly. "I'm well on the mend and hope to return for the Trackrod. I'll go to Flanders to spectate!" The new car is being built by Stokes' engineer Wayne 'Eric' Ball and Stokes says it will be even better than the old car. He is already planning a full BHRC campaign for 2005.
