Horne battles in Porsche Supercup
Barry Horne battled back from first-lap contact to finished 14th at Spa-Francorchamps today (Sunday 29 August) in the Porsche Michelin Supercup. Meanwhile, his Team Parker Racing team mate Martin Rich finished 17th as the pair of British racers took on some of the leading sportscar racers in Europe. After missing the best weather window in qualifying, Horne started 19th on the grid, but was determined to move up the order in the race. However, off the start he was squeezed by the car of Vanina Ickx, and Barry’s car brushed a front wheel against the wall. That upset the car’s tracking and the handling imbalance would prevent him from showing his true pace in the race.Despite that handicap, Horne tigered up to 14th place and gathered valuable Supercup experience as he raced his own car for the first time this season. It was also vital track time ahead of his next Supercup outing at Monza in September. On a dry track and in front of a packed Grand Prix crowd, Rich finished 17th after a long-battle with the DeWalt car of Bert van Rossem. For both Horne and Rich, this was their first time racing at Spa in Porsches.
