Drama & Thrills for Wales Rally GB

Wales Rally GB  16-19 September 2004With less than a month to go until the start of Wales Rally GB, the excitement is almost too much to bear. Can reigning champion Petter Solberg come back from the brink and snatch the lead away from Sebastien Loeb? One stage that will certainly test the drivers is the Cardiff SuperSpecials where the spectacular start and finish to Wales Rally GB will take place.  And it could be the location for the first head to head fight between Loeb and Solberg on the British event.

The Cardiff SuperSpecials provide the only stage on Wales Rally GB where spectators will have the chance to see two cars go head to head against the clock.  And whilst the running order for the first SuperSpecial on Thursday 16th September has not yet been confirmed, fans could be in for some real excitement with a chance to see Solberg and Loeb battle it out head to head.  Spectators can book tickets via walesrallygb.com or via the Rally Hotline.

Andrew Coe, Chief Executive of Rally GB Limited, explains, “The Cardiff SuperSpecials take all the excitement, exhilaration and pure energy of Wales Rally GB and contain it in a circuit. The result is sensational and spectators can’t get enough. Watch as the cars flash through a dramatic water splash, fly across the bridge and over the jump. Tight corners and fast straights test the drivers to the limit as spectators are taken on a white knuckle ride just watching the action.”

Paul Jenkins, Head of Marketing and Tourism at Cardiff Council, says the SuperSpecials are integral to the city’s role in supporting the Rally. He says “Although Cardiff has hosted Rally GB since 2000, not everyone is able to get out to enjoy the action in the forest stages. The SuperSpecial stages in Cardiff Bay take place at times that are convenient for most people and offer an ideal opportunity for local people to get their first taste of international motorsport, especially with the specially-discounted family ticket that’s available this year.”

This year the Cardiff SuperSpecials mark the official start and the ceremonial finish of the Rally. The purpose built track is conveniently located in Cardiff Bay and a park and ride system will be in operation to ensure easy access. Spectators benefit from fantastic views and for extra comfort ticket holders can upgrade to the grandstand seats. The SuperSpecials take place on Thursday 16th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th.

Coe concludes, “The SuperSpecials are the perfect way for newcomers to rallying to sample its excitement for the first time and we can guarantee once they’re hooked they’ll be coming back for more. We urge people to book their tickets in advance to ensure a place trackside at the UK’s most exciting motorsports event.”
