Red Bull F1 search picks three

The Red Bull F1 Driver Search judging panel chose John Edwards,Jonathan Summerton and Wade Van Hooser from a field of 25 karting and junior formula car drivers after two days of testing and competition at Sebring International Raceway. The three winners will travel to the final Red Bull run-off in Estoril next month for three days of running inFormula 3 machinery to determine who will represent America on the Red Bull Junior Team beginning next season.

Two of these three semi-finalists are Skip Barber school and Skip Barber race series alumni. Edwards, 13, is from Little Rock, Ark., and at the age of 12 won a Skip Barber Southern Series race at Daytona International Speedway. Summerton, from Kissimmee, Fla., is 16 and also wonraces in Skip Barber competition. Van Hooser, 15, is a 125cc karter from Tulare, Calif.

The current American members of the Red Bull Junior Team racing in Europe are Scott Speed (leading both the Eurocup and German Formula Renault Championships), Colin Fleming (who's also won in Formula Renault) and Dominique Claessens.

In the U.S., Matt Jaskol has twice won in Formula BMW USA.

All four are also former Skip Barber Racing School and Skip Barber Race Series and/or Barber Dodge Pro Series drivers.

The judging panel included Danny Sullivan, director of the Red Bull Junior Team; Dr. Helmut Marko; British Formula 3 team owner Alan Docking; and European Formula Renault team principle Roberto Cavallari of JD Motorsports.
