Back to Brands for Porsche Open

Races 11 and 12 in the Michelin Porsche Open Series will take the racers back to Brands Hatch for another double-header over the weekend of 18/19 September. Coming hot on the heels of the tremendous races delivered at the Porsche Festival, the Open is enjoying a highly successful season. The mighty 935 of Richard Chamberlain continues to be the dominant force in the series with six wins from the 10 races to date. The sight of the 935 at full-stretch on the Indy circuit is a magnificent spectacle and Chamberlain will be very tough to beat this time around. The big challenge will come from Rupert Lewin in his stunning 996GT2R. Having taken a resounding victory at Oulton Park in Chamberlain's absence, Lewin will continue his quest to beat Chamberlain in a straight fight. The class two entry includes a gaggle of 911GT3 Cup cars and it is Craig Rapp who is regularly setting the pace this season. Craig now has six wins from eight starts in his tally, the most recent being in the two-driver Bill Taylor Memorial round when he shared the car with Robi Bernberg. Gerald Harrison and Henry Firman lead the chase of Rapp in their 911GT3s, while Kevin Harrison should return at his home track having missed the Porsche Festival while getting married! Former Porsche Club front-runner Rod Carman is another class two contender in his GT3 Cup car, while Tony Brown is working hard to get his 964RSR up with the GT3s.Class three is proving one of the most open classes with four drivers in four different models all taking the spoils. Porsche Club title contender Chris Egginton (968CS) has enjoyed several successful forays into the Open, while Gordon Matthew (944 Turbo) and Paul Howell (993) are also multiple class winners.Class four for 944s is delivering some great racing even though Alex Eacock took a vice-like grip on the class lead from the season opener at Croft. Nine wins in nine starts was a fine record by any standards, but all the time Tim Bevan was racing hard to try and depose his friend and rival. Finally, last time out at Brands Bevan scored a breakthrough win and will be very determined to do it again!
