Porsche Club Championship

Following on from the runaway success of the Porsche Festival, the 2004 Michelin Porsche Club Championship will return to Brands Hatch over the weekend of 18/19 September for another double-header.Rounds 11 and 12 of the 17-race season will put another excellent grid of cars onto the Indy circuit and promise two more cracking races. The championship contest still has races at Castle Combe, Spa-Francorchamps and Donington Park to follow the Brands rounds, but the battle for the title is shaping up nicely for the closing races of the season.Still at the head of the overall title race is Richard Lambert, who is having a brilliant season in his Carrera 3 from class two. Currently, Lambert has a 29-point lead in the overall standings, but with dropped scores soon to come into play, he faces a big challenge from a gaggle of leading class one drivers. The top class one racer at present is the hard-charging Peter Morris in Team GVR's 968CS. Like his team mate Chris Egginton, Morris has four wins from 10 races under his belt and will be aiming to repeat his victory from the second race at the Porsche Festival. Morris has also yet to play his points-doubling joker, unlike Lambert and third-placed Ian White (3.2 Carrera). White is now just five points down on Morris and will arrive at Brands ever more determined to claim an elusive first win of 2004.Having missed the single race at Oulton Park in July due to business commitments, Egginton currently lies 40 points down on his class one-leading team mate, but is still firmly in contention once dropped scores start to take effect. The big rival to Lambert in class two is Rob Williams (Carrera 3), but a non-finish in the last round at Brands has set him back a little. Other strong class two runners include Tom Segrue (944S2) and David Botterill (924 Carrera GT). Class three is the domain of Fraser Robertson (944), who is proving almost unstoppable. He has now won the class nine times in 10 races, and only a tangle with the tyre wall in the season opener at Croft has prevented a 100% winning record. The 911Es of Chris Stewart and David Fissenden are Robertson's main class rivals. After Brands, the championship contenders will prepare for a very busy October with five races at three venues in two countries over the space of four weekends. There is a long way to go just yet in this contest!
