While drivers from all over the world converge on Cardiff for the Wales Rally of Great Britain, the British qualifying round of the World Rally Championship, Nathan O'Connor will travel less than ten miles from his hometown of Caerphilly in South Wales to take part in the most challenging motorsport event in the UK.The twenty six year old driver will conduct several test sessions as part of his preparation for the rally over the weekend lahead of the rally. O'Connor will team up with current Kwik Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship leader, David Higgins, to get some last minute advice from the accomplished driver. Higgins a multiple rally winner in America, China and the UK, spotted O'Connor's talent in 2002 and has since supported his activities though a scholarship programme.The Information Technology Systems Administrator will contest the rally with co-driver Neil Bevan, from Rhigos near Aberdare. The pair will pilot their ACE Motorsport prepared Associated British Ports PLC/ Fisherman's Rest/ Forest Experience Rally School backed Subaru Impreza over the South and Mid Wales special timed stages with just one thing in mind for their first attempt at World Championship rallying."We have just one aim for the rally, which is to see the finish ramp on Sunday. The rally will be our toughest event in our career to date. I would like to set some decent quick times among the amateur category drivers, so that may come in the South Wales forests, having competed there previously."Nathan has contested in the Glamorgan forests, but will rely on Neil's co-driving experience of the remaining stages that make up the rest of the competitive mileage.The rally gets underway on Thursday 16th September with a single spectator stage in Cardiff, before the rally starts in earnest in the West Wales stages of Brechfa forest on Friday.
