Jones gets into gear for Rally GB
The final round of the 2004 Peugeot 206 Super Cup promises to be a nail biting finale, as Stuart Jones currently has a joint lead with fellow Welshman Ieuan Rowlands. The two drivers having dominated the series this year with their close battle.Following his retirement on the Park Systems Furniture Stages 2004 on Saturday 11th September, Jones was the front runner among the Peugeot drivers at the point of his retirement. On special stage five the young driver hit a large rock in the road causing damage to the sump of the Mick Jones Timber 206 and resulting in a non finish for the Welshpool man and his Wolverhampton co-driver, Richard Edwards. Jones notched up another stage win in the Peugeot series, taking his tally to 38 stage wins and stamping his authority as the quickest driver in the series."We had taken the lead on the third stage and were on track for our third win in succession, having won the Swansea Bay and Mewla rallies, but the damage caused instant retirement." Jones will now turn his attention to the British round of the World Rally Championship in Cardiff, the Wales Rally of Great Britain. Jones will make his WRC debut piloting his Proton Satria Super 1600cc car.Stuart will be partnered by Burnham on Sea co-driver, Neil Dashfield on the rally and use the rally as an exercise to gauge his speed against the regular Junior World Rally Championship drivers."It will be good to get a taste of the World Rally Championship and see how we compare against the Junior championship drivers. I have not driven the car for a while, but should get used to it again quickly and hopefully we can set some competitive times."The rally gets underway in Cardiff on Thursday evening with a spectator stage in Cardiff itself, before the rally starts in earnest in the Welsh forests on Friday with nearly 400 kilometres of competitive motoring ahead of the team before the finish on Sunday back in Cardiff.
