Combe Racing Club launches Young Driver Scholarship Programme

One lucky young driver competing somewhere in the UK this year will win free entries to the 2017 Castle Combe Formula Ford 1600 championship. The valuable award is open to any driver, racing in any championship, under the age of 23 and with at least 2 years of racing experience behind them, one of which must have been in cars.Ken Davies, chairman of the Castle Combe Racing Club and the man behind the initiative, said, “The club is very keen to encourage young drivers to experience Castle Combe and all it can offer. We have seen some great examples of this over the years, but more can always be done, so we hope this prize, worth over £1700 at today’s values, will encourage more to experience the unique attractions of our historic circuit. The definitive selection criteria for the choice of winner is still being finalised, but what we can say is ‘you’ve got to be in it to win it’, so keep an eye on the club’s website for further updates.”The Castle Combe championship, this year backed by the circuit based ‘Wiltshire College’, has a long established reputation for providing extremely close and competitive racing. Divided into four classes, almost any age of ‘Kent’ engined Formula Ford is eligible and whilst the newer class A cars tend to be the pace setters, young drivers such as Yatton Keynell’s Luke Cooper have shown cars from the older classes can be just as competitive. The first of the championship’s eight rounds is at the circuit’s first meeting of the year on Easter Monday, 28 March. Free registration for the championship can be made via the club’s website, www.ccracingclub.co.uk .
