Josh Caygill ready for Audi Sport TT challenge

Josh Caygill will once again proudly fly the flag for the UK in prestigious DTM touring car support series the Audi Sport TT Cup this year – and the 26-year-old says he has been working harder than ever during the off-season for his return to the exciting one-make championship.

Officially confirmed by Audi Sport this week as one of the 14 permanent drivers on the 20-plus car grid, the Netherton racing driver is one of just five returnees to the TT Cup this season and is aiming to use that vital experience to his advantage when the campaign commences at Hockenheim in May.

Becoming a podium finisher during the category’s inaugural season last year, the Briton’s second year of car racing competition at European level, Josh concluded the all-action championship inside the coveted top 10.

Heading into the new TT Cup season confident of mounting his best challenge yet, Josh has upped his already intense training regime another notch in preparation. He still refuses, though, to in any way underestimate the challenge his rivals will pose.

“It’s fantastic to be back for a second season in the Audi Sport TT Cup, last year was great and we made some good headway – the podium being the highlight obviously”, said the former motorcycle racer, “I’ve been ramping up my training over the last few months, I bought a professional race kart to keep me sharp with the racing and it's a great way to keep fit as well.

“Deep down this year, I'm definitely going for regular podiums but I never like to count my chickens either. The Audi TT Cup is a very tough championship, with some great young drivers, but with a year of experience under my belt I'll be aiming to make that count.”

Josh will link-up with his fellow TT Cup competitors later today at Oberstdorf in Germany for a special fitness camp and there will then be an official test day in April. The season proper will start over the weekend 7th/8th May at Hockenheim in Germany and will conclude with a second visit to the German Grand Prix venue on 15th/16th October.

In between the two Hockenheim events, the championship will visit the Nurburgring and Norisring in Germany before the halfway point of the campaign at Zandvoort in The Netherlands in July. There will then be a second trip to the Nurburgring in September ahead of the penultimate event of the season at the Hungaroring, near Budapest in Hungary.

“We're doing everything we can to prepare as well as possible, I'm trying as hard as ever, working closely with my manager Tim Sugden, and I'm confident I'll be a better driver this season”, Josh added, “There were some good performances last year, so we really need to build on those.

“As always, I have to say a huge thank you to all of my sponsors who've been such a key part of my racing career and who keep me on the grid each year. I can't wait to get started now and to push for some good results.”
