Ollie Chadwick returns to Protyre Ginetta GT5 Challenge for title bid

Announcement follows induction as British Racing Drivers’ Club Rising StarGinetta GT5 to support British GT and British Touring Car Championships

Multiple Protyre Ginetta GT5 Challenge race winner and two-time championship runner-up Ollie Chadwick has signed a deal with Xentek Motorsport to make a welcome return to the category for the 19 race 2016 season.

Determined to go one better than the past two years – the Tetbury, Gloucestershire, based racer only missing out on title victory in 2015 due to propshaft failure in the final race of the season – Ollie will head into his third season in the championship with the timely boost of being named a British Racing Drivers’ Club ‘Rising Star’.

As last year, Ollie will balance his bid for honours in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge with his studies for a Business Management degree. Where time allows, it is hoped he will also compete in selected GT or endurance racing events during the year.

Retaining its position as a key support category to the British GT Championship, the Ginetta GT5 Challenge will also – for the first time – appear on the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship calendar at Thruxton in May and Croft Circuit in June.

Ollie Chadwick:“I have thoroughly enjoyed racing in this series and, whilst a move to the [Ginetta GT4] Supercup or GT4 in British GT was considered, I did feel there was unfinished business in this championship – and the inclusion of two rounds on the British Touring Car package was an additional incentive.

“However, I also think I would be pretty quick and capable in GTs, so I am hoping to include some selected races this year if the right opportunities arise. As always, I want to thank both Xentek and Ginetta for their support. I’m a firm believer that motorsport should be enjoyable and, as such, you need the right people around you. So, I’m very much looking forward to renewing my acquaintance with everyone at Xentek and Ginetta.

“I am also very proud to have been made a ‘Rising Star’ by the BRDC. It’s an important honour for any young driver, and I plan to be a worthy ambassador for the Club.”

Chris Richards, Xentek Motorsport co-team principal:“We’re absolutely delighted to have Ollie back in the team. We’ve worked with him since he was in [Ginetta] Juniors and he’s maturing into a 100% professional racer, with the capability to be quick in almost anything. In the last two years alone he has achieved 12 wins, 15 poles, 32 podiums, 17 fastest laps and numerous lap records.”
