ADD Motorsports driver Martin Kodric is preparing for an exciting new challenge in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe series and World Final this season. The 18-year-old Croatian has announced plans to compete in the six-round Lamborghini Huracan competition with current World and European champions Team Bonaldi Motorsport for 2016. And while reaching speeds of up to 300km/h with just two years racing under his belt is a big ask, the racer is confident of being up to the task.
He said: “It’s a really big challenge, but I’m really excited to be taking it on.
“I had a one-off race at the end of last year at the Lamborghini World Final in Sebring and felt I made huge progress on a tricky circuit. Although it was a bit of a shock getting used to the heat as it’s a lot hotter than driving a single seater!
“However, when this opportunity came along to compete with such an experienced team as Team Bonaldi Motorsport, I was delighted.
“I can’t wait to get going and show what I can do. Winning the Series is the aim, although it’s obviously going to be very difficult.”
Martin competed in Formula Renault 2.0 Alps and Eurocup with Fortec last season. While his debut in the Eurocup was overshadowed by a serious collision, he went on to become a regular point-scorer and finished second at the Nurburgring. For 2016, on top of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, he will also compete in a few selected one-off GT3 races. The 2016 calendars of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe, Asia and North America feature six double rounds on 17 of the most iconic circuits across the globe.
Last season’s Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe saw the thrilling debut of the new Lamborghini Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo. This season’s series will continue alongside the Blancpain Endurance Series – the most demanding championship for GT racing in Europe.
Fraser Sheader, director of performance and management team ADD Motorsports, added: “With so few drivers able to secure a professional career in single seaters, we decided moving Martin to GTs early was the best course of action. The aim for this season now is for him to gain as much ‘tin top’ experience as possible.
“It’s a big challenge, but he has the raw talent and we hope to help him develop the other skills required to be at his best when driving a GT car – both on and off the track.
“It’s going to be an exciting season.”
Martin begins testing with Team Bonaldi Motorsport this week, with the first weekend in the series getting underway on April 22nd in Monza.
