Grant looks ahead to 2016 Mazda MX-5 SuperCup campaign

George Grant moves up a gear in his third year of competitive racing, stepping up to the challenge of the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 SuperCup in 2016 as the season gets underway this weekend (April 2/3) at Snetterton.Having spent a lot of time altering Grant’s MX-5, the Paul Sheard-run machine is now ready to make the move to the highly competitive, eight-round SuperCup class. With a string of strong finishes in what George refers to as his ‘improvement’ year, the GGR Motorsport driver feels more ready than ever to take on a new challenge.“I’m feeling good about this season,” enthused Grant. “We’ve all worked hard over the winter and, after a preparation outing at Oulton Park a few weeks ago, which was a brilliant way to kick-start my season, I’m ready to take on Snetterton this weekend.”With the help and guidance of former BTCC star Paul O’Neill, who will join George for some testing at Silverstone over the next few days, Grant’s confidence going into this new challenge is at an all-time high.“I really feel like I’ve turned a corner in terms of ability,” he said. “The SuperCup is a completely different kind of championship to MaX5. It’s much more aggressive and competitive but, with Paul’s assistance, I believe I can have a go at achieving some strong results.“Seeing as I missed the round at Snetterton last year, I haven’t raced there for a while so I’ll be sure to make the most of my time on track this weekend to acclimatise and build my confidence there.”This year George has increased his support for Coming Home, a charity dedicated to helping those wounded in British conflicts. Indeed, he has already raised awareness of the charity and a whopping £3,000, spreading the word of the great work that Coming Home do in the UK.“Given that my own business is aligned with social housing, it seemed fitting to establish a relationship with a charity that offers a wide range of housing assistance and options for ex-Service personnel and their families,” commented Grant. “These specially adapted homes have been tailored to suit the needs of those in desperate need of housing following a traumatic or life-changing injury, which is something I believe we should all be supporting in a big way.”Commenting on George’s fantastic work, Coming Home CEO, Brigadier James Richardson MBE said, “We’re delighted that George is continuing to support our work and will fly the flag, so to speak, in his Coming Home-liveried Mazda. Of course, we’ll be supporting him all the way and hope to keep raising awareness together in the future.”“I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our sponsors and partners, who have been fantastic,” added Grant. “I look forward to working with them further.”The opening round of the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 SuperCup gets underway this weekend (April 2/3) at Snetterton.
