AmDTuning targets points in BTCC opener

The AmDTuning.com team will hope to kick-start its 2016 season with some solid championship points when the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship gets underway this weekend at Brands Hatch. The West Thurrock-based team makes the short trip to Kent hoping to make a strong start to its first full season running the striking Audi S3 it campaigned in the latter part of the 2015 campaign.Having signed a deal to return to the team earlier this month, Tamworth-based racer Ollie Jackson – who last raced for AmDTuning.com back in 2012 – produced a solid performance on track during the recent Media Day test at Donington Park, which marked his first opportunity to sample the Audi he will race this year.Completing more laps than anyone else, Ollie ended the day 15th quickest with a best time less than eight tenths of a second off the pace – despite the fact it marked his first run in a front-wheel drive touring car in well over twelve months.Ollie has fond memories of the tight and challenging Brands Hatch Indy circuit, having secured the best result of his BTCC career at the venue during his first meeting in AmDTuning’s VW Golf four years ago. Now, the 31-year-old will be keen to impress again on his second 'debut' with the team, although he insists he is keeping his feet very much on the ground when it comes to the weekend ahead."The test on Media Day was really productive and I think it was a good start to my time back with the team," he said. "It didn’t take too long to get back into the groove with front wheel drive and it probably went better than I expected it to considering it was the first time I’d driven the Audi."Although I had one run on new tyres, much of my running was on older rubber so I know there is more time to come as I get used to the car but the potential is certainly there."With Media Day being my only test in the car, I’m not getting too carried away with setting myself any targets for this weekend but I think my initial feeling that we can be running somewhere from 10th–20th stands true."It certainly isn’t out of the question that we can score a couple of points finishes but we’ll have to see how it goes."Team boss Shaun Hollamby said he was looking forward to seeing what Ollie could achieve during the weekend ahead, and insisted that the Audi could be one to watch during the opening meeting of the campaign."It’s great for us to have Ollie back as one of our best seasons in the BTCC came when he was driving the Golf," he said. "Arguably, this year gives him the best chance yet to show what he can do in a touring car as there is still a lot of untapped potential in the Audi – as we showed in the final round of 2015 when Jake Hill was in the car."The key thing will be how quickly Ollie can adapt to being back in a touring car after his time away from the series, but he has been working hard to get himself into the best shape possible and his performance in the recent test at Donington Park was really encouraging."While you have to take testing with a pinch of salt, to be as close as he was to the pace having only had a single run on new tyres was a great achievement and is a further indication of how good the Audi package is."I think points are a definite aim for this weekend, especially with the changes that there are in the field with some teams switching to the new RML parts. With the Audi still running the GPRM parts from last season, we know what we are working with and hopefully that knowledge and experience will be beneficial come race day and allow us to start the season strongly."Given Brands Hatch is our home track, it would be the ideal way to kick-start our year and also an early reward to those sponsors – such as Cobra Performance Exhausts – who have come together to make this deal possible."
