Motors TV Weekend Highlights April 9,10

Are you likely to be sitting comfortably at some point this weekend? As with every single one of those two-day Godsends, the answer better be yes, especially with the hoard of high octane racing we’ve got lined up for you on this occasion!

First up, you might want to check your weather forecast. No, really, because we can see some thunder from Down Under in the form of the mighty V8 Supercars’ second outing of the season at Symmons Plains bearing down on us.

Whilst it isn’t actually time to fetch your raincoats, you may want to glue yourself to the sofa for this one. Indeed, in a remarkable turn of events Nissan Motorsport driver Michael Caruso seized the championship lead for the first time in his long career in V8s after a dramatic first round in Adelaide. With the last Nissan Motorsport driver sitting at the top of the standings all the way back in 1992, round two was set to be a big one for the squad. However, with the second and third-placed Red Bull Racing Australia boys – Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen – aiming to increase their team’s consecutive race victory tally at the Tasmanian venue to a staggering seven, things were never going to get any less tense! Catch our highlights of the entire weekend to see if the underdog could weather the storm.

If you thought that Australia’s premier touring car series couldn’t get any more unruly or ridiculous, then you clearly haven’t seen its louder and somewhat more rural sibling – the V8 Utes series. Providing much the same sort of sweat-inducing and tail-happy competition, the ballistic pickup truck-esque vehicles used in this quintessentially Australian free-for-all don’t give the competitors mad enough to race them an easy time. This series in a nutshell? V8 Supercars on steroids. If that doesn’t make you want to watch our highlights of the opening round in Adelaide, we’re not really sure what will.

The FIM Motocross World Championship also returns to the track this weekend, even if it is for some slightly muddier and less sophisticated competition. Be that as it may, the riders and their highly mobile dirt bike machines certainly won’t play any nicer at the fourth round in Argentina as the championship fight really starts to heat up. Whilst MXGP giants Romain Febvre and Tim Gajser remain at loggerheads for the championship lead, it’s all about the Red Bull KTM gents – Jeffrey Herlings and Pauls Jonass – in the MX2 title chase. The talent is there and the venue is all set for a fiery showdown, but who knows what drama the fiesta in Patagonia will throw up!

The supercar-littered Blancpain GT Sports Club is also back for another season with the first outing at Misano taking place this weekend. Ostensibly this series is a bit of light-hearted fun for gentleman drivers but, like its ultra competitive cousin, it features all the trappings of an elite sportscar series, not to mention drivers who are no less hungry to get that all-important silverware! Catch our delayed-as-live coverage and lap up the action provided by this racing master class.

Because we’re so generous, you can also have our highlights of the FIM SuperMoto World Championship, Toyota 86 Championship New Zealand, FIM Snowcross World Championship AND Portuguese Super Seven by Kia on the house!
