Rain threatened throughout the entire day but it grew worse towards the end of the day
Juan Trino (JTR S600) dominated the scratch times and Cat.III while Iraola (Demon Car R34 +) and Villa (BRC B49) set fastest times in Cat. I and Cat.II
Rain was expected for Saturday but the intensity of rainfall came as a surprise for drivers and teams taking part in Ubrique – Benaocaz Hillclimb. Or, more specifically, the intensity of rainfall.
In the morning, during first training session, Ángela Vilariño and her new and long-awaited Silver Car EF10 clocked the quickest time, an amazing 2:39.357. Besides, she also topped times in Cat.I. At halfway point, Vilariño was more than a second quicker than Christian Broberg (Radical PR6) and, on the finish line, her gap was almost three seconds. In Cat.II Javi Villa (BRC B49), who took win in Estepona, was beaten by Jonathan Alvarez (BRC CM05 EVO), who posting a 2:52.468 was almost two seconds clear of his main rival. In Cat. III, and with rain already playing a key role, Eduardo Noriega (Peugeot 207 S2000) emerged fastest with his 2:48.467, ahead of Enrique Perello (Ford Fiesta Proto).
Saturday´s second training session was cancelled as a car leaked oil and only five participants started.
In Race 1 was started drivers continued improving times as time went by. Noriego and Miguel Ángel Clemente (FIAT Grande Punto S2000) set reference times when Trino crossed the finish line with his 2:38.232. But, all of a sudden, rain worsened. So, nobody else could improve on Trino´s time. With his car, a real eye-catcher, Trino dominated both scratch and Cat.III times.
Aznar (Porsche 997 GT3 Cup) was uncharacteristically way down in the timesheets. Among GT racers, Manuel Cabo shone with Nissan GT-R to finish 9th.
In Cat.I, Joseba Iraola (Demons Car R34 +) came first with a time of over 8 seconds faster than José Albino (Silver Car S2). Manuel Avilés (Demon Car CM 1000) ranked 3rd and Vilariño, fastest in practice session, dropped to 6th. Broberg was forced to retire as he went off the road.
Finally, in Cat. II, Villa showed rain-master abilities beating José Manuel Hidalgo (Silver Car S2) and José Antonio Castillo (Speed Car GT-R). Álvarez finished 4th-fastest.
