Boost for Bill Taylor Fund

The total money raised by the annual Bill Taylor Memorial Trophy race has risen to nearly £60,000 after the 2004 event. Run each year by the Porsche Club GB, the all-Porsche race was part of the inaugural Porsche Festival at Brands Hatch at the end of August.This year’s event was won on scratch by the 911GT3 Cup of Carrera Cup racers Jason Young and Richard Westbrook. Once the calculations had been done, the Trophy was awarded to a delighted Ragdan El-Akabi, who had driven solo in his 911RS to win the handicap element of the hour-long race.After the presentations, Bill’s widow Pam was able to announce that the event had boosted the fund close to its target of a second £30,000, to purchase more equipment for the Oncology Department at the Middlesex Hospital. A delighted El-Akabi then added a further contribution to celebrate his victory.Taylor was a Porsche enthusiast and the consummate club racer. He died in 1991 after a long battle with cancer. The trophy and the race were created in his memory as a way of contributing to the fund.
