Waters podiums in Australian MX

Suzuki’s Todd Waters put his Wilson Coolair Motul Factory RM-Z450 onto the podium at round three of the Motul Motocross Nationals in treacherous conditions at Broadford, Victoria in Australia on Sunday.

Waters scored 1-4 for third place overall at the State Motorcycle Complex that saw both qualifying and the Thor Superpole cancelled because of muddy conditions following a severe overnight downpour.

Waters took the holeshot and led from start-to-flag in race one, but in the second race crashed with another rider at the start, but remounted to catch-up to fourth position.

Suzuki team-mate Luke Wilson made his return from injury to score two 15th positions, despite suffering a puncture in the first moto, to finish 13th overall.

Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki’s Waters now remains third in the Thor MX1 championship standings and sits only eight points from the series lead.

Todd Waters:

“In the first race I felt like I rode how I should have. I’ve been training hard and the bike is good, so especially in those conditions it was awesome to get the win. I really felt like it was going to be my day to be honest.

“In the second race Kade Mosig crashed in front of me and I just landed straight on top of him – I really had nowhere to go and I just hope he’s ok. I got back up and got back to fourth, but even though I was catching the front guys I just ran out of time to make it happen. I knew I needed to pass third place for the overall in race two and I just couldn’t get it done, which was a bit disappointing, but it’s good to know that our speed is there and we’ve finished on the podium again. The last two races before the break are sand races, which I’m really excited about, so hopefully put ourselves in contention for the championship.”

Luke Wilson:

“I’m pretty happy with 13th overall, especially being my first round back from injury. I wasn’t exactly happy with the way that I rode today as the track didn’t really work for me and I struggled out there all day, especially with that bad luck in the first race.

“In the second race everything was great with the bike but I just didn’t bring it to the table. There’s no excuses, so I’m just going to look ahead to round four and hopefully step things up there. As a team, the goal is always to finish every race, and we managed to grab some points and do that today, so although it’s not the best day result-wise, we’re happy to take the positives out of round three.”

Neale Wilson – Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki Team Manager:

“To finish round three with one of our boys on the podium again, as a team we are very happy. It was great to see Todd get to such an impressive start in moto one and lead from the minute the gate dropped until the very end of the race. The track at Broadford tested everyone but Todd really showed that he’s able to take on anything today.

“It was also fantastic to see Luke back out there. He has worked very hard in the last week since he’s been able to get back on the bike and to come away with a 13th overall at only his first round back is a solid achievement. We can’t thank our sponsors and partners enough for their commitment and dedication to our team. With round three being a mud race, everyone was tested, but our products performed in the tough conditions and that’s really a testament to the team we have around us for 2016. We have a few weeks now to get ready for the next round, which will be nice, but overall we are thrilled to finish yet another round on the podium and to walk away happy and healthy.”

Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki will now begin preparations for round four of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals being held at Murray Bridge in South Australia on Sunday May 22nd.”
