Collard gets points lead and first win in Pirelli-backed BRDC British F3Ricky Collard became the third different driver to lead the Pirelli-equipped BRDC British Formula 3 Championship after as many rounds this season following a strong weekend at Rockingham.
Collard took the points lead when he finished second in the opening race, losing out in a battle for the win with Carlin team-mate Lando Norris on the penultimate lap. After finishing seventh in race two, he then raced ahead of Norris again at the start of race three and took his maiden win by over a second.
“It is a fantastic feeling to be a British F3 race-winner,” he said. “It is something I’ve dreamt about since I was a little boy and now to have it is pretty surreal. It would be nice to get my name on the trophy at the end of the year but we are in a really good position leading the championship.”
There was another first-time winner in race two in the form of Australian driver Thomas Randle. The race was halted after a big first-lap crash for Enzo Bortoleto in which the Brazilian barrel-rolled and then flipped end-over-end but walked away unharmed.
Collard is now 22 points ahead of Toby Sowery, with Matheus Leist one further back after a third, a fourth and a second place from the three races. Randle, who added a pair of fourths to his wins, is only three points behind Leist, with seven more back to Norris.
Round four takes place at Oulton Park on May 28-30.
Fisher takes Irish Tarmac lead after more maximum points with PirelliPirelli driver Alastair Fisher has moved into the lead of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship after following his Circuit of Ireland win with another maximum points haul on the Rally of the Lakes.
Fisher finished second overall on the Killarney event and first of those eligible for championship points. He is now six points ahead of Sam Moffett, who took third on the rally in his similarly Pirelli-equipped Ford Fiesta R5.
Former leader Josh Moffett is now four points behind his brother after crashing out in Killarney, with Keith Cronin just 2.5 points further back in a close title fight, having suffered mechanical woes on his Citroen DS3 R5.
Just 12.5 points cover the top five heading onto round five of seven, the Donegal International Rally on June 17-19.
Haslam and Cooper win, Iddon leads in Pirelli-backed British SuperbikesRound two of the Pirelli-supplied British Superbikes season at Oulton Park on Bank Holiday Monday produced two more winners and another different championship leader.
Leon Haslam scored his first BSB win since 2008 in a wet opening race, with all riders using Pirelli DIABLO Rain tyres. His Kawasaki team-mate led the early laps, before being reeled in by Haslam and Dan Linfoot as the track dried. Honda’s Linfoot had a spell in the lead before crashing out, allowing Haslam to hold off Christian Iddon to win.
With the track continuing to dry for race two, riders made a mixture of tyre choices. Getting it right on a wet front and slick rear was winner Richard Cooper, narrowly beating fellow BMW rider Iddon who had two intermediates. Haslam finished third after a slow start on two slicks.
With Shane Byrne eighth and sixth after only qualifying 18th on his Ducati, Iddon now leads the standings ahead of round three at Brands Hatch on May 22.
McAleer at the double in Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli openerThe Sylatech Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli season began at Brands Hatch last weekend with Mark McAleer scoring a double victory.
After taking pole position in his 996, McAleer opened up a gap in race one over the fighting pack behind, only for a safety car to eliminate most of his advantage. He held on to win though ahead of Kevin Harrison, Paul Winter and Karim Maoudi.
Rain just before race two meant the start was delayed so that drivers could fit wet-weather Pirelli tyres. Despite the different conditions, McAleer led from the front once more, sealing the win ahead of Winter and Mike Johnson.
Reigning champion Pete Morris was forced to miss race one after crashing in qualifying, but came through to finish fourth in race two.
In race one, Tim Speed won class two in his 968CS but he slid off in the wet race two, recovering to second behind Andrew Toon.
The second round takes place at Silverstone on June 5.
Coming up next week: The GT Cup moves on to Brands Hatch for the second round of the season.
