Tom Chilton won yesterday’s second Green Flag British Touring Car Championship round at Donington Park, but the battle to be crowned 2004 Champion between Vauxhall team-mates James Thompson and Yvan Muller will go down to the final round later in the afternoon.
Team Honda’s Chilton, at 19 years old the BTCC’s youngest driver, held on for his second victory of the year despite late-race pressure from Muller, who earned a bonus point for setting the fastest lap.
Thompson finished fifth so now leads Muller by just six points going into the afternoon’s final round. Muller will start the race from second on the grid, alongside Chilton in pole position, and Thompson from fifth.
Third and fourth places in the race were taken by leading HarrierZeuros Independents Trophy runner Dan Eaves, in Computeach Racing with Halfords’ Honda, and Anthony Reid, in WSR’s MG.
