Truck racing ace joins BHRC in Yorkshire
One of Britain's top truck racers will join the 2004 Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship for the Trackrod Historic Cup on Saturday (2 October).Richard Walker will return to rallying after nearly two decades away to drive a Mk1 Ford Escort entered by XS Racing on his home event. In recent years, Walker has been a pacesetter in truck racing both in the UK and Europe, but will now return to rallying with Graham Henshaw as his co-driver.Also rejoining the BHRC for the Yorkshire event is former BTCC ace Patrick Watts in his Sunbeam Tiger. Watts has missed several BHRC events since stunning championship regulars with his pace at the start of the season, and is considered to be a very strong contender for the high-speed Yorkshire stages."Patrick will give us a hard time, I'm sure," says Dessie Nutt, who runs his Porsche 911 in the same class as the thundering Tiger. Although Watts has only done two gravel events to date, and has never driven in the Yorkshire forests, he is sure to be on the pace.Watts will switch back to rallying from racing having contested the BTCC Masters event at Donington over the weekend (26 September). Up against a grid of the best touring car racers in the world in identical SEATs, Watts was one of top five fastest drivers in the race before retiring with three laps to run.
