HRCR Classic Stage Rally Challenge

Preview, round six: Trackrod Historic CupAfter a foray onto Belgian tarmac, it is back to gravel stages for round six of the HRCR Classic Stage Rally Challenge in the Trackrod Historic Cup on Saturday 2 October. The fast Yorkshire forest stages make up the penultimate event of the 2004 championship season and an excellent classic entry is boosted by the inclusion of a former World Rally Champion!Running in parallel to the Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship, the HRCR Classic Stage Rally Challenge is for cars from 1975-81. This new initiative is gaining in support all the time and the level of competition is already superb as the title contest heads into the final two events.A devastating last stage retirement with engine problems on the Tour of Flanders was a big set-back for Gareth Lloyd/Ryland James in their Mk2 Escort. Now, they head for Yorkshire trailing Ernie Graham/Robin Kellard by 15 points in the title race.Martin Freestone/Chris Heyes form another strong pairing, while Dick Slaughter/Geoff Dearing and Ian Rix/Frank Richer bring two more strong Mk2 Escorts to the famous Yorkshire stages. However, the real focus of attention will surely be on the presence of Stig Blomqvist in the entry in a Mk2 Escort from Historic Motorsport, co-driven by Ana Goni. The former World Rally Champion is one of the sport's all-time greats, and his inclusion in the field is another major boost for the Classic Challenge! It will be fascinating to see how the times of Graham and Lloyd in particular compare with those of the 1984 World Champion!Welcome additions to the Classic field in Yorkshire will be Escorts for Chris Shooter/Beverley Le Good and Mark Clifford/Brett Clifford, while offering variety to the Escorts will be the Opel Kadett GTE of Robin Morgan/Louise Towers.
