Rally crews help ladies in distress
Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally ChampionshipRallying does not always enjoy a good relationship with local residents, but three crews from the Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship turned good Samaritans to help three elderly ladies in distress during the Trackrod Historic Cup on Saturday (2 October). On the road section from the final stage in Gale Rigg back to the finish, Steve Smith/John Nichols found the three ladies standing in the road looking flustered. On the twisty and narrow road, the ladies had managed to spin their Vauxhall Astra on a downhill hairpin. "Apparently they were heading the same way as the rally cars and had just got it all wrong going around the hairpin," explained Smith. "The car had spun up a steep bank immediately round the bend and was completely undamaged but quite close to rolling!"The old ladies, reported to be of retirement age, had clambered out of the car and had decided not to try and push it, because every time the car moved the inside front wheel came further off the ground.Smith/Nichols were soon joined by the following crews of Dominic Frattaroli/Wyn Thomas and Chris Browne/Liz Jordan. "With all the assembled muscle pushing and Wyn and John throwing their combined bulk over the bonnet we got the car back onto the tarmac, and I parked it in a gateway for them," added Smith. The ladies were very grateful and said how sorry they were to have spoilt the rally for the crews involved!
